As some of you may have heard... Michigan had freezing rain last week-end and as a result... I've been without power since Sunday...been staying with my folks since. There cable/phone has been out that long also...still had power though. As the saying goes "You don't know what you got... till it's gone" applies.

Good for you! Still over 10,000 without power here around the Lansing region. Bless the utility crews that have been putting in some very long hours under harsh conditions.

Much of the ice melted off the trees today, finally. I have a bit of clean up to do when I return to work.

Glad to hear that your power is back on.

I bought my gasoline powered generator back on '05 IIRC after a similar ice storm in my area.

I didn't want to miss any weekends with my daughter so I made sure I could run the furnace even if the electricity went out.

I just kept the fireplace stoked and slept in the living room until the power came back.

I was the on-call engineer that weekend, so I'd charge my phone in the car every so often. Even had one service call while the power was out at my home.

I still have the generator. I've used it for one power outage since then, so it's working

We don't have power outage in So Cal in winter, we had rolling black out in summer month few years ago when electricity demanded excess capacity, but it usually lasted 1-2 hours at a time.

Stopped by the house tuesday when it was 15 degrees outside. To my surprise it was 44 degrees inside.

I don't think so...IMO..there only good for short term use. Plus I have a natural gas furnace and a well pump that are both hard wired.

My AC and well pump are hard wired. I simply disconnect the main breaker and hook up to my house with one of my portable gensets. Easy as can be.

Short term use can keep you in your house...
