Finally, AMSOIL makes a PSF

I'm just waiting for Amsoil to start making some special "synthetic" R134a refrigerant that will be "so much better" than any other on the market. Come on people, it's freakin power steering fluid!! Don't waste your money.

-complete with outstanding 4 ball wear test results for the included lubricant! Sorry, j/k. I couldn't resist. But seriously, what's to say that there isn't a benefit to a dedicated synthetic PSF? Redline has had one for years. You know that they must have been getting requests from their dealers and/or customers to come out with this new product. Their ATF works just fine for this use in my experience.

If you were to add a decent filter to the low pressure return side of this type of hydraulic system, this fluid would probably last the life of the vehicle and eliminate most steering gear wear and degradation.

I just recently swapped out the PSF in my 07 ford f150 with their ATF. I had a partial gallon taking up space on the shelf and wanted to use it up. I swear the Ford boxes are the loudest on earth! After about 2 days of short tripping I noticed that the whine has quieted down quite a bit...how or why this would happen is beyond me, but I'll probably never have to change it out again. I'm sure the next owner will benefit. It will be interesting to see what the value proposition of their PSF is compared to the $1.86/pint Napa juice.

Well, I'd say that there's benefit over a synth ATF used in its place if you can't get a synth PSF.

As far as "need"? My mother's Corsica was whining with the relief in below freezing temps and the trans was delayed in engagement. I had her wrench (a former Mobil station owner turned indy) find M1 ATF and I requested that he swap out the power steering too while it was there. Never had another problem. Now that all the OEM's are instilling consumer paranoia with proprietary fluids (felt here EVEN MORE than for the general public) a "suitable" synthetic PSF is great.

Fords do have noisy PS systems. I use Amsoil ATF and did notice the oil stayed cleaner longer compared to Ford's factory fill. Amsoil ATF quieted down the PS system and never had any noise since.

Also I did notice the price of Amsoil PSF is cheaper than their ATF oil. This is good news, glad Amsoil came out with this product.

I have not seen the price yet, but it makes sense that it would be cheaper since some of the additives that are needed in an ATF would not be needed in a PST system.

If you look at the VOA/UOAs posted, the PSF, especially if it meets Honda requirements, will need a pretty stout additive package.

There are plenty of benefits to synthetic PSF. Cold weather performance is improved. PSFs can run very hot cooking lesser mineral PSFs. If the additive package reduces wear, we'll have longer lasting pumps/bearings/racks/seals.... PSF is typically not filtered, not maintained, not cooled well.... a synthetic is a great upgrade.

$6.95/$5.20 (RT/DL-PC) for 16oz bottle of PSF. I have a GMC Yukon that says not to use ATF in the steering. With Valvoline dropping their syn fluid not many other choices other than RL and RP.

Honda PSF has a higher visc than DexIII/Merc type of ATF or typical PSF, so what is Amsoil's PSF in visc?

I'd think Honda PSF has a stronger detergent package, so it should be backward compatible with other make's PSF if visc isn't an issue.

Now THAT was funny.

Synthetic PS fluid will provide:

Lower fluid temps to improve seal life
Smoother low temp operation
Reduced varnishing of valves
Better wear protection

Most high end German vehicles went to synthetic PS several years ago. The Amsoil fluid meets the VW/Audi PS specs, so an option to the "Pentosin" fluid.

Has anyone or does anyone know of anyone with a Honda product that has tried this fluid? I would like to try it but I'm a little scared.
