Used to be cartridge design, then the spin on and now back to cartridge design. Several owners I spoke to who have changed oil on this engine say it as clean as you can get. No mess with the filter like with a spin-on.

Also says on the box; Enviromentally friendly easy on/off

Thought you might be interested in the filter the comes on the 2005 (and prior yrs) GM 3.6L-255hp VVT (CTS) all aluminum engine.

I bet Champ will not make a filter for that application. They could never get the pleats even enough to pass the owners inspection.

Next time you are in Wal-Mart, look at an ST 9018. Also likely the STP SO 9018 I used was champ made.

Better yet, pull a CH 9018 out of the wall of orange and look at it. Also look at the price. I have been buying L 15436's for $3-$4.

Fortunately there's Fram and Champ for people who want filters with crappy looking internals.

BTW, for engine oil, cleanliness is next to godliness.

I knew I could get people riled up with my comment. However, Ray, I love your insight on the coolant issues, but I do believe that pleat spacing makes a difference.

More oil will go through the widest pleat, and that is bad.

FG, they had to go to Mexico to get the pleat spacing even?

This filter was about $4.25 (+-) at local AC Delco retailer. I commented to him about the Made in Mexico and he said that GM has a huge assembly complex down there and thats where these are made?

It for a pricey car so I wanted to stick with OEM parts. Car came with Mobil 1.

GM may assemble cars in Mexico, I don't believe they have any parts operations there other than distribution. Strangely enough, General Motors de Mexico markets Fiat. That filter was probably made for GM by Champ.

They do in fact have parts manf. there. I have seen many GM only parts made in mexico, wire harnesses, electrical components etc. I got a new 5.0L engine for my 1992 truck last fall that was made in mexico. If they can make engines, oil filters can't be much harder.

I did some price checking just for the heck of it.

PF2129 GM part 25177917

From AC Delco retailer List $4.25 [Made in Mexico]
From GM Parts List $6.56 [on order - TBD]
Fram CH8765 Walmart $8.56 [made in Korea, looks shoddy compared to AC model]
