just bought a 2004 Volvo S60-R 6 speed. i bought it from my work, the vehicle was a trade in. we changed the oil 4 months ago with a Napa filter and Mobil 1 5w30. the car has sat on the lot since then. ive driven it somewhat hard since i bought it yesterday. i was thinking of changing out the oil and filter. the filter is a cartridge type. we have a volvo dealer next door and i get the jobber rate for pricing. should i stick with OEM for the filters? i was planning on using German Castrol for the oil and change at 5k miles. Volvo recommends 7500 miles.

The factory Volvo filters are Mahle. I am using Mahle filters I bought online for, I belive, $5 a piece in my '07 S60R. Mann filters, according to Volvohead, who I'm sure can add to this, seem to be of higher quality. I have yet to see them, however. I can add that there seems to be quite a difference in quality between the Mahle and the Wix/Napa filters with the advantage going to Mahle. The construction seems more robust. Have fun with the car. I love mine! *Almost* no complaints- the oil-tanker like turning radius has hosed me more than once so plan ahead in parking lots!

HAH! I understand. I had an '84 Mustang SVO that, admittedly, had a WORSE turning radius than the Volvo. When you're not used to it though, it'll take you by surprise. You shouldn't have an issue though!
