I've currently got 9 PL14610 and 5 Mobil 1-110 stashed, and am wondering which one would better (if at all) to use for the next OC of these vehicles:
2001.5 Pathfinder (VQ35DE) at 127.3k - Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w40 (hopefully will slow a rear main seal leak)
2007 Altima (QR25DE) at ~91k - probably Pennzoil Ultra 5w30
I'm not certain whether either engine has any sludge or other buildup, I can't see much through the fill holes and I'm not going to pull a valve cover to look.
The Pathfinder was my mother's vehicle, bought new, and I've been driving it since 109k. No current issues other than the slow rear main seal leak, oil consumption is negligible. I've always changed the oil every 3k miles or so, and I'm uncertain of previous maintenance history since I wasn't able to dig up many receipts. The oil generally gets to operating temperature when I drive it. I've been having some extended idling recently (20-30 minutes usually, sometimes more) so I may be experiencing some fuel dilution.
The Altima was my brother's vehicle up until 80k miles or so, and now my mother is driving it. I also don't know much service history of this car, but it has no issues other than a fouled downstream O2 sensor. No oil consumption. I'd like to run Pennzoil Ultra for two or three short OCIs (3750 miles) to clean up any potential buildup. The car gets reasonable trips of 20-30 minutes of city driving most days of the week, so the oil gets to operating temperature.
So, which filters should I use for these applications, or will the difference be inconsequential? Should I save the Mobil 1 filters to use over multiple OCIs (probably with the Altima), and just use the PureONEs for the "cleanup" of the Altima and for my Pathfinder's short OCIs? Will the PL14610 fit fine on the Altima (since its spec is PL14612)? Should I switch to using the PL14459, which I've read is more efficient than the PL14610? I contemplated that earlier, but was unsure whether the different bypass PSI on the PL14459 would pose a problem.
