Fiesta poor downshift to 1st

The original 5 speed manual in my 2013 Fiesta never liked to downshift into 1st. I had to be at a crawl below 5mph. I have read of several complaints from other people. I just installed a used IB/5 Transmission. It has no problem shifting into 1st, even from 10MPH. Very smooth. I don't know if this IB/5 came from a Fiesta, or something else. That transmission was put in the Focus and other cars. Was it only the Fiesta that had this issue? If so did it start at a certain year model?

My focus with the 6-speed manual and my Evo with the 5-speed manual never liked going into first gear from anything faster than 10mph.

EDIT: Which sucked big time on a small displacement, turbo car with the AC on because it was go into either a high RPM first gear or a really low second gear.

No, it's very common to have trouble shifting into 1st while moving. I've had to fit some uprated synchros in some boxes.

Do Tell. I will be rebuilding the original transmission. Upgrade P/N's? If nothing else is bad what else do I need for the job? Gaskets, sealant? I already have the input shaft seal and plan on ordering the output shafts seals. I do have the 5 gear removal tools.

Numbers on the transmissions sticker:
BA6R 7002 AE AF7 (Maybe AE7)
TRQ3A 110313 00395
Car was built 04/13
VIN 3FADP4EJ5DM225349

Hyundai made them available. Bottom line, the lower the gear the stronger the synchro action needs to be.

replace all seals while you are in there. Be careful with applying heat, even if the procedure calls for it.

Yeah you can do that but the throttle not closing instantly gets in the way. I hardly ever used the clutch on my Datsuns and Triumphs except when taking off or stopping.

I tried that on the original transmission. Did not help much. That does not work so well on modern cars as the controls do not let the throttle plate close suddenly.
You don't want it closing, you want some RPMs. Blip the gas in neutral with the clutch up then hit the clutch and grab your gear.

It's actually a shame you pulled the old transmission; bad synchros actually teach good driving when you work around their limitations.

Realistically there's no reason to grab first above walking speed.

For double clutching? You don’t need the throttle to close quickly for double clutching on a down shift. You just need proper RPM when you engage the clutch in neutral to synchronize shafts/gears. You actually need that lazy throttle as you need increased RPMs for that lower first gear. That lazy EPA throttle is the bane of quick smooth UPshifts.
