Would like to have some feedback please regarding anybodys experiences with the Monroe Economatic Strut/Coil Spring/Mount Full Assembly? I know they were cheaper than OEM for the Explorer but hoping they work out well for ride and comfort?
I had just planned on going with OE Mopar by Tokico but I do not know how much longer the wife will keep the PT. (She oohs and ahhs everytime we see a Challenger...least she's sticking with Mopar)
Price is certainly right but not if they gotta' come back out in 25,000 miles.
Spazdog, make sure you price from Rock Auto. I checked at Advance First. AAP wanted $130.00 a pop per strut plus tax & Rock Auto with the same part# wanted $60.79 per strut. Shipping was around $25 bucks but I saved a good amount overall!!! I ordered 2 for the front of the Explorer on Wednesday of this week and today they were on my front porch when I got home from work. Nice delivery turn over I say!!!

Ever try shopping AAP with the Rock price? Might be interesting to hear their "story".

I try and avoid putting any parts on my vehicle that have economy, budget or value as part of their name. Unless its fixing up to sell or give to MIL.

Rock Auto was cheaper than AAP even with discount codes and their free shipping over $75? Interesting.

Yep. You need to run the numbers from both companies.
RockAuto was cheaper than AAP for Monroe SesaTrac for the Accord.
I've installed Monroe Quik-Struts on many people's cars with great results. Nothing better than replacing all the parts in one swap without risking your life swapping the spring like in regular strut only flavor.
I agree with the others, too - ROCKAUTO is the place to buy....I purchased quik struts there for about $125 ea where autozone wanted almost $180...RockAuto beats them even with shipping which was still only $18! I had the parts on 3 days.

Quickstruts are certainly a good idea in theory, but in practice, some on iATN have complained about incorrect spring rates and various assembly issues with Quick Struts.
To the OP: Monroe's OESpectrum and Sensa-Trac struts are what you want - not the "economy" line. As iffy as aftermarket parts already are, the last thing you need is it to buy something that was designed to be low-end.
Both of those options are better than the blue Econo-Matics, and not only that, but they will even be cheaper than the economy struts once the rebate is factored in.
The Econo-Matic uses the Monro-Matic strut, which only lasts about 30k miles.
Anything "economy" oriented from Monroe is bad news. If you use them, stick to the higher quality/price lines. Their economy/budget/value lines are the bare minimum to get a vehicle to pass a state inspection, nothing more.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of.
One of the area stealerships have the OEM Tokico/Mopar struts for $59 ea. compared to $80 for Gabriels and $90 for the Sensa-Tracs at the discount parts stores. I just hate dealing with coil springs.

They make quick struts with the Sensa-Trac! They're simply called "Quick Strut"
Gabriel ReadyMount quick struts use their Ultra struts
So you still won't have top deal with coil springs
I like to keep the OE spring if possible. I like to just use OE struts and mounts all together but sometimes it's not worth the extra expense. I think for a DYI the hardest part of just changing the strut instead of going with a quick-strut assembly can be the strut nut. Sometimes even using an impact the strut rod will spin do to the locking nut threads.
LUV IT, ordered & paid for economy struts part #181398 & came home today after work to check the merchandise I received on Saturday before it goes to my garage on Friday. Rock Auto sent me the OEM struts instead--part #171398 which is stamped on the strut with the Made in the USA stamp above it. I was even contemplating sending them back unopened due to the negative feedback I got back from my fellow BITOGers. Happier than a pig in [censored] with this whole ordeal!! Knockin on wood though for the installation!! THANKS ROCK AUTO!!!
My mistake, part# on strut-71398.Reflex Monroe Quick Struts is what I received. Did the math from what Advance wanted for the same thing minus the $50.00 code and came out that I pocketed $257.66 when all said and done!!! Thanks Again Rock Auto!! YOU ROCK!!
