Oh, and I got it at $5.99 a quart from AAP online and picked it up at the store. Better deal than what it normally would be.

I wish I could find more of the SM Edge 0W20 locally its all gone.

Welcome to BITOG!

That's a good point if you need a thicker oil, and with a HTHS viscosity of 2.7cP Mobil 1 will be a bit thicker than most 20wts at operating temperature.

But remember and abide by the lubrication axiom, "thin as possible, as thick as necessary".

Thanks....definitely new to this. Been picking up info from here for a while and wanted to go ahead an join.

Another reason I like the M1 is simply due to it's easy availability.

Where/how are you guys finding the Toyota 0w20 for $5/qt.??? I called a handful of Toyota dealers in Indy today and they were all $7.xx per quart.

The Toyota oil is not on my list of oils to use in my car. I understand the rational of using it, but it is not readily available in my situation.

If I was you I would go with Eneos, easy to pick up at NAPA, good price, runs great in Asian Import cars, I am going to use it in the truck next! (Yes, its an Asian Oil, bit my AMERICAN TOUGH FORD has a Mazda engine LOL)

Two questions:

1. Where can you get Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w20 or PP in 5 qt jugs. Never seen it. Only M1 is sold around here in 1qt bottles. Despite it is cold in the winter. Walmart, Autozone, Advance -none have it.

2. Will 0W-20 or 5W-20 synthetic be adequate protection for revving to 6000 rpm regularly?

I used OW-30 M1 in two vehicles that got driven hard and wear was a non-factor. Both in excess of 200k miles.

Thanks

That depends on the application, but even with the lightest 20wt oil (Toyota 0W-20) if you have sufficient oil pressure at 6,000 rpm with the oil as hot as it ever gets then then yes you will have adequate protection.

Never seen Pennzoil Platinum 0w20 at retail stores in So Cal. Of 4-5 Walmarts within 20-25 miles from my house, only 1 Walmart has 5-qt jugs Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W20 in stock. Valvoline Synpower 0W20 is available in both quart bottle and 5-qt jug at my Walmarts.

My local Walmarts have Mobil 1 0W20 in the 5 quart jugs but they don't have Valvoline Synpower 0w20 in 5 quart jugs...

OT but related...I would like opinions on whether there would be any differeence at start-up (wear-wise) using 5w20 vs. 0w20 in NY winter temps (teens to a low of about 0*F occasionally).

I have a nice amount of 5w20 in my stash that I would use in my Corolla if I thought it had low temp. properties that equalled 0w20 in the temps that I see...I'll stick with 5w30 in the summer...

Amsoil's group-III oils (XL, and now OE) have always seemed to show good results. I'm betting their 0W-20 OE is a great low-cost 0W-20 option.

It doesn't exist (at least not according to the Pennzoil website)

Walmart.

You could also try Mobil Super 0w20. That is more likely on par with your Toyota/Valvoline/Platinum 0w20's. IMO.
