FAKE PUROLATOR BOSS purchased?

Hi folks, I bought some Purolator boss filters - are they fake ? They aren’t made all the same but all have the same model number. I’m a bit worried to use these in my corvette… Instagram link here

What is the date code stamped on the bottom of them? Where were they bought? Never heard or seen any Purolator Boss being counterfeit.
 
code I see is F05S13F1 for the one with the one that looks like a metal valve inside and

F05S14F1 for the other

Purchased online from Zoro
 
According to the Purolator data sheet on the PBL 14006, the product doesn't have a by-pass valve. The filter you display with a by-pass valve could be a incorrectly labeled and packaged product. I doubt they're fake but I suppose it is possible.
 
Ok so that thing I’m showing is indeed a bypass valve? Aren’t they dangerous not having one ?
 
One has a bypass valve (not a "purge" valve) in the dome end. The other has no bypass valve, just a plate in the dome end. The glue around it is normal. The C6 probably has the filter bypass valve in built in to the engine filter mount. The C5 LS also takes that same filter model, without a bypass valve in the filter.

I'd call Purolator and ask them what the deal is. I doubt they are counterfeit. As already mentioned, they ones with the bypass valve may just be mis-labled.
 
Perhaps the earlier built one was incorrectly built with a bypass valve or a running change in design to no bypass valve. Still, best to reach out to Purolator to seek clarification.
 
Based on what I see, I don't believe the filters are "fake". After double checking the information provided in previous replies, agree that the topic filter application does not require a filter integral bypass. So, those without it are fine imo. The others with the bypass, either is a mislabel or manufacturing error. As an aside, the bypass seen in the one is a Purolator type used on some applications, those not using the flat spring type. I would think either Zoro or Puro should make it right. Might be best to start with Purolator first though for an explanation.
 
Being that they were made one day apart per the date codes points to a possible mislabling unless he was lucky enough to get an order of filters with a design change showing up on just some of that model.
 
I’ve never seen a Boss with that style bypass. Cut one of each open and we’ll inspect!!!
Purolator has used that coil spring bypass design on some of their models for a long time. Not sure which models use the coil spring vs the flat spring, but both have been used on Purolators.

Good to know. I’ve only seen the flat style on the Boss in the c&p’s I’ve personally seen which isn’t very many models.
 
If your engine has its own built-in bypass valve in like the filter base, then having one in the filter won't hurt anything, it is just an extra bypass valve, and they are all normally shut.

Unless the filter bypass valve is set lower than the in-mount bypass valve. Most filters will most likely have the bypass set higher than the in-mount, but ya never know without knowing the settings on both.
 
You know a bypass valve is not all or nothing, it's opening partially on a pressure gradient in degrees. It all depends on temps and degree of filter loading as to how much engine oil is actually bypassing filtration. Anyway, the system works.
 
^^^ Sure, but the goal s you don't want the filter bypass opening sooner or more often than not.
