By now we have all heard and seen the blown electrolytic caps due to cheezy chineseness, mostly related to bad reverse engineering/bad stolen electrolyte formula. Mostly in PC's, but other equipment, too.

What I'm looking for is the classic set of photos that showed a largish cap 1+" tall, 3/4+" diameter - but inside was really a much smaller capacitor. Does anyone know where I can find these photos?

TIA

Paul

You've got to admire Yanke-- err "Yang-sing" ingenuity. You can never say that the Chinese don't know the meaning of opportunity for gain.

Considering that Chinese companies have blatantly ripped off products as expensive as cars (to the point that parts are interchangeable), I would not put it past them...

WOW THAT DISERVES CAPITAL LETTERS. as a computer geek and general electronics guy i would be super #@$%! if any of my electronics ever had caps like that.

however being from china it doesnt supprise me. at one time PEPBOYS was selling some special made in china scooters. these praticular scooters has small 50cc engines, but has plastic sleeves fitted over the engines which made them resemble the size of a 250cc motor. the plastic was complete down to the sparkplugs. i bet the little 50cc motor under the plastic got really super hot with no airflow.

i also saw multicylinder scooters which infact only has 1 cylinder, the rest were fakes. even had fake exhausts and intakes. all of the fake parts were very high quality plastic mouldings. you really couldnt tell they were fake by looking at them.
all of these engines and parts were behind shrouds where you couldnt normally access them to touch with a finger or tap with a wedding ring. , but only look at them through some screen and they looked really real. the average person wouldnt even know! they sure fooled me the first time i saw it.

man i tell you, we thought those days of american companys saving a few cents by designing an inferrior part was bad, they got nothing on the chinese!

I can't say if that photo is a fake or not. I find it odd the values don't match. However, I know for a fact the scenario has been done and then some. And I REALLY worry about fake semiconductors, as I think others should be concerned.

Why is the cap on the right missing paint on the lower portion where it was bent straight to allow the supposed removal of the smaller internal cap?

Is there a size differential between the connectors or is the one on the left seemingly larger due to the solder adhering to the connectors?

Pic may be accurate, maybe not.

Did a pic search at www.alltheweb.com (superior to Google pic search in my feeble opinion) with no luck. Tried various search words and terms.

Did find Chairman Mao you running yellow dog imperialist lackey puppets.

Because it's not paint. Shrunken sleeving of a crosslinked polymer variety. For insulative reasons.

I wonder if they're doing the same thing with the 3.4L V-6s they're building for General Motors??? Crack one open, and lo and behold, there's a little 1.5L four-banger sitting there. Ya know, I had a Equinox for a rental, and it seemed awfully lethargic for a 3.4L. . .

Yeah like those weenies can prevent it for a small fee.

I used to be in the bizz as they say....I was involved in the "bad" electrolyte caper. They tried to pay me off with girls. I would have none of that.

I have seen tubes purposfuly mislabled for the same reason. This is before the former USSR colapsed and we had a regular supply of quality tubes. You can not trust the Chineese at all !!! They are all about makeing a buck! Even if you could actualy track down the company that did this it would be hard to get any action taken against them!!
