It does not give you extended oil changes. It is for engines with high mileage.

That's exactly correct, per what Fram has told me personally. They also said it's the ONLY filter that includes the "goo".

It's not marketed to those who want to go beyond a 5,000 mile interval. It's marketed to those who think that because an engine has a few miles on it they need something special to protect it.

I've been thinking that the Fram High Mileage filter with the time-release goo would be good for those that want to do the eternal oil change interval. Just change the filter every 8000 miles, and it will keep the TBN up. No need to change the oil ever again.

Im not familiar with the filter you speak of, but aside from needing to replenish the lost TBN you also need to filter the oil down to a much finer degree than any full flow filter is capable of. Provided one doesn't have any fuel/coolant contamination and a good bypass filtration in place, the periodic changing of the bypass and full flow filter followed by topping off the oil level is generally enough to replenish the necessary additives many times past the recommended OCI.

This is the second "goo" filter attempt by Fram. The first one had a dose of PTFE contained in it.
The problem with the HM filter IMO is the price. It should be a buck more than the orange can and a buck less than the Tough Guard.

The time release gel is more beneficial to neutralizing acid with keeping the TAN in check, not so much the TBN. It would be useful for a high blow by engine.

Want additives for a high mileage vehicle, buy high mileage oil (many if not all are also a blend, making it a higher quality combo than regular oil and the high mileage filter).
