factory navigation update card experiences?

I have a 2012 Mazda 3 with the factory nav, which is made by Denso. They sell an update card but I'm having trouble figuring out if it's worth it (on the Mazda specific forums people seem to be more interested in replacing the whole unit). I don't use it much but there have been a few times when I turned it on and found that the road I was on was not in the system.

Are these updates generally worth it?

Acura is always trying to sell me a $150 upgrade DVD for my circa 2007 navigation system. IMHO the return on value is pretty poor. I am okay having gaps in navigation as the main roads rarely if ever change.

The only vehicle that I have a factory navigation unit in, is my 2008 Honda Goldwing motorcycle.

I sincerely hope that the Honda automobile division isn't as completely incompetent in handling updates as the motorcycle division is. I'm not sure if the problem is with American Honda (motorcycle division) or with Garmin (supplier).... or both.

The last update was $95, but we had to wait 2-3 years to get it.

You shell out over $20,000 for a motorcycle, and then have the gall to expect timely updates for the navigation system? I know, I know... who do I think I am?
