Factory fill

Hi All.

3 weeks ago, we got a new little car in the family. Now it has driven 1500 km. I am wondering if i should change the oil now to flush out any run-in dirt from the engine. Or if the factory fill is some kind of run-in oil. And therefore Best to lave it in. The cars oci is 15.000 km.

What do you all think?

My general new car rules I follow. 1000 miles, drain oil and leave filter. Then follow factory OCI. Don't baby it and don't beat on it.

+1 Engine building specs are so precise now a days that keeping the FF in isn't like it used to be. Completely agree, whatever helps you sleep at night.

Leave it in for the recommended OCI - just keep it topped off. There is no dirt in new engines. I think i Will end up changing it after 5000 km. It Will also be just before winther and the cold Weather.

And for the first time ever. I Will need a 0-20 oil.

I changed the oil in my Hemi when it was new at 500 miles then again at 3000 miles. Changed all fluids in my new Harley at 1000 mile first service.

Do ya'll get snow, ice and salty roads in Denmark? Is the climate much like Holland, where it is so close to sea level and near water that it doesn't get much below freezing?

I always change out the FF early at around 1600 km (1000 mi). I'm glad I did on my 2014 GMC Terrain with the 2.4 Ecotec engine. I happen to talking with the service mechanic and asked to see the cartridge filter. I found around 12 to 18 aluminum chips left over from the machining process. I checked again at the 5000 km change (free) and again it still had some chips. Now it's OK. I would not go to 15000km on the FF oil. Enjoy the car.

Every car is different. Maybe your engine was built on friday after lunch... I'd drop the FF and add a magnetic drain plug. If nothing comes out next time, you're golden. If it does, you know you did right

A few steel chips embedded in a piston skirt from splash oil can happen. You need to catch these things early. If you never catch anything, it was an engine built on tuesday in the morning when everybody was fresh

The cost of an oil change is peanuts vs the chance of a warranty claim and loss of time with the car down the road... Why chance it for $25~

Another vehicle without an OEM owners manual ?

Call the dealer get an OEM owners manual and check if BITOG advice is correct.
