EZ-Pass

I can count on my hands the number of times I traveled I-5, 405 or any of the bridges last year. And you think I want to pay for a new viaduct. I say if ya use it, you should be the one paying for it. Just think of all the people in incorporated King Co. that are still paying for that not going to be built monorail fiasco.

There was a lawsuit in Oklahoma for Pikepass users.

And let's not mention that the tolls were setup to pay for the road and then be removed. Funny how that time came and went 30 years ago.

We are lucky here in Ontario, the only toll road we've got is the 407 highway, which is a second highway which was built to take the pressure off the main 401 highway here. So you don't absolutely have to take the 407 to get where you're going, but if you need to get there a little quicker it's a good alternative. Expensive though! My sister used to take it every day before she moved to Vancouver and it would cost her $300 a month! I only use it once in a while and it costs me about $15 to $30 a month. It's all done by transponders though, there are no toll booths. They just bill you at the end of the month. If you don't have a transponder, a camera takes your picture and the bill is sent to the owner of the vehicle.

I must say our roads are generally in very good condition here. Certainly better than some areas I've travelled in the US (like Detroit or Buffalo!)

"Just what we need here, the government getting even more of our money to do nothing with."

Am I the only one here who has a problem with EZ Pass? I got a letter in the mail stating I owed EZ Pass money because I used an EZ Pass lane without an EZ Pass. Now, they were right that I didn't have an EZ Pass, but I also hadn't driven on that road and I no longer had that license plate number. I hadn't had it in over 2 years.

So, I was on the phone, long distance, on hold for at least 15 minutes. I explained the problem to the operator and she told me I would need to get documented proof from NYS department of motor vehicles that I no longer had that plate. My response was "uhhhh, no, I don't need to do anything. The EZ Pass system screwed up and EZ Pass NEEDS to fix it." She said she was sorry and couldn't help me, that I would need to do what she said to clear myself of the fine. Now, this is a private company so they can take your drivers license or ticket you, but they can ruin your credit rating if you don't pay. After writing to my state representative and the governors office, I was informed that it would be taken care of.

About 6 months later one of the Buffalo TV channels had a spot on the news about this. It was becoming a major issue. Even a sidewalk plow in the town of Tonawanda (which had never left the town) got a fine for blowing through an EZ Pass in New York City. I guess the main problem was that the EZ Pass computer only worries about the plate number and it didn't consider that there can be multiple vehicles with the same number from different states. NY took this one step beyond and issued identical plate numbers to different vehicles depending on the use. It just happened that my plate number (4H22) was also issued to a taxi cab in New York City. The only difference was that the plate in NYC had a small "TAXI" below the number.

I am all for subcontracting government jobs to private companies, but who is there to oversee them and make sure they are doing it right?

Another question is EZ Pass integrated into the "Sun Pass" or w/e thingy in Central Florida's toll roads?

With all the Northerners in sunny FL it would be logical.

At least when I am at home EZ Pass would be a good idea. Your not "cheap" for being a EZ Pass user. Skipping NJ Turnpike toll castles, Ben Franklin & Delaware Memorial Bridge would be nice. What is really annoying is along going from the NJTP to The Atlantic City Expressway and stopping at two toll castles at end at 12miles intervals. I-95S near the Elkton toll castle also makes no sense. Local traffic from Newark often has to drive around a local road just to bypass it. There is no sense paying 4-5$ for locals going 1.5miles to work/school and back no? Perhaps the I-95(S) castle needs to be pushed back to the Susquehana Bridge

The same people who see to it that the Government does it right.

Like someone above said, we used to get a 50% discount when were using tokens....I can go the backroads a couple of exits and skip the tolls though..

It was nice on my trip to Forked River NJ to go through the EZpass on the GSP doing 70 mph

NH and the MA Pike need to incorporate that instead of slowing down to almost a stop while using the EZPass
