I been looking at this sign behind my house for a week now. I live next to a State highway and you usually see political signs there during elections. My city does have an ordinance about political signs, they can be put up but must be removed 10 days after an election. Well, this sign isn’t an election sign and I want it gone. My neighbors probably feel the same way. The sign post is on city property and not on private property or the State highway. I emailed the city manager that is in charged of signage within the city limits. I asked the city to remove it.

I will be interested to see what the city does.

You sure its on the city property, or just on the right of way? If the city is not using the right of way, or the land isn't specifically deeded as a separate parcel, the land owner can use it as they see fit until the city decides to use it.

Now wait and see what happens, around here, nothing will happen.
Here either. However there is a "free speech" issue, and just because you and I don't see the issue here, the judge may see it different.

So the city decides its not worth a potential lawsuit.

Another good reason to live in an HOA. But people here don't like HOA's?

I would have ignored it, in fact it doesn't bother me at all. Trust me I've seen worse a lot worse, pure hate in fact. Regarding the HOA, that sign could have appeared on a road leading into or out of an HOA where the HOA has zero say in it. ;)

People assert themselves in all sorts of passive aggressive ways. It tells me what I need to know about whoever that was.

Per the OP, the sign is on city property. HOAs are not in play here. Nor is free speech on private property.
The OP has a legit complaint; he contacted the city.

Whether or not the city does anything will depend on several factors which, at this point, we have no information about:
- what city ordinance/policies exist regarding signage on city property?
- what, if any, permits were required?
- what, if any, permits were granted?
- what, if any, conditions of the permit exist and have they been violated?

Had similar situation here with a couple of folks that complained about a Nativity scene the city put up at city hall (public, city run building) one year. The complainant used the separation of church and state as the basis for having it taken down. Once it hit the media, the owner of the property next to city hall (private property) let the city move it about 10 feet onto his lot. Eventually, the name of the complainant(s) became known and lots of "things" happened to them.

Yes, I drive the 1.5 miles (or walk) out of my HOA in Mayberry like bliss, and hit a T with a light (end of the HOA). Directly across the road must be 100 signs in all shapes and sizes, never ending, never changing.

A fact of life my friend. And FTR there are good HOAs. Finding one is part of the homework done prior to buying a home in an HOA.

They are only as good as the people on the board. I lived in one where they tried to outlaw bikes on the "Bike Paths". On the master plan they were labeled as bike paths and people with kids moved in for that reason and others. Pools, schools nearby etc.

At first I thought it was about the asymmetric pine tree getting on your nerves... :)

My advice is to take it easy. It's just a sign, life's too short to worry about silly things.
It's a spruce (maybe a fir, doubtful). Just say'n................when throwing people under the bus, facts count.;)
