First I've heard of that.

A manufacturer would have to make the threads in the head as well as those of the plug to start (catch) at the right time and "shoulder out" at the right time too.

How does MB do it?

Just off the top of my head....going by experiences, it seems a dual plug system, like on training aircraft, delivers more bang by design.

Stacking washers under a spark plug for a "1% increase" sounds like asking for trouble......though I'm certain MB would use special washers designed not to fail.

I was impressed when first I realized the lugs on automotive lamps serve to orient (index) filaments correctly.

This just in:

From me to NGK
Hello,
This regards an NGK spark plug #SILZFR7A9G.
These plugs fit a 2019 Genesis Sport with the 3.3-liter engine, as well as other Genesis and Kia vehicles.
Are you still manufacturing this spark plug?
Has it been superseded to a new number?
Thank you,

From Mark Kent of NGK
Thank you for your inquiry. I do apologize but Genesis and Kia have not released the plugs to the aftermarket. Unfortunately, even though NGK makes the plug, they are only available through the dealership and/or authorized parts distributors. Until that time it is the manufacturers proprietary information.

To BITOGers
Turns out my BIL Genesis is at 70k and he had the plugs done back at 42k -the recommended time.
I've asked him to dig up the bill and to check the price charged for the plugs then.

Such fun

I actually tried that on my motorcycle. It doesn't work very well.
MB definitely does it, and I have heard reports of uneven idling as a result of not using the proper MB plugs. How true those reports are, I won't know for MANY years.

RockAuto doesn't even have a listing for spark plugs for that engine.
I am flabbergasted.

Does anyone know the story behind these apparently special sparky poos?
I can't recall if it's a Civic or Accord, but somewhere around 2016-2020, the plugs are dealer only with nothing available from NGK or Denso. My wife's '24 Toyota Grand Highlander has no aftermarket plugs available either and they're maybe as low as $32-ish from online Toyota dealer options.

2019 Genesis G80 Sport (3.3l V6) belonging to my BIL.
I sought part sources online, starting with dealership parts departments to avoid counterfeit parts.
There were options for full sets of plugs for Genesis' other engines.

However, plugs for the 3.3l, with its 42,000 mi. spark plug interval, are listed singly.
I've found them for $38 to $43 each. No sets of 6 were listed.

Is this 3.3 a queer duck of some sort?

Any feedback is appreciated.

edit: I did just find an Amazon listing for a set of 6 genuine plugs from "Big Tiger Parts" for $129.70 + $15 s+h
Also, Amazon had a "click over here" ad for OE plugs from MTQ Auto Parts (?) for $84.50.
Remember, the dealership prices come to ~$240.
By the way, Big Tiger Parts is a legitimate Korean importer. I order stuff though them if I can and some of the stuff comes FedEx directly from Korea and gets to Minneapolis in 5 working days, and I just paid $20 shipping. They sent it air. That was before the tariffs though.
