Anyone else in the middle of the arctic blast? NWS reports -20F, wind chill of -38F, in my town this morning. It's been this way the past couple mornings, and supposed to be the same tonight, then we'll see a warming trend. Highs in the 50s this weekend!

There should be an Executive Order declaring Winter over.

I just got back to Vermont from 4 weeks in more moderate locations. No place I was to was actually warm. I could not get back to my home because, at my house on the day of my intended return, we were experiencing 21 inches of snow and freezing rain. Got home yesterday, and this morning it is clear and temperature is -8F

Yes, really cold, even for Toronto Canada, but not exceptionally so for this time of year. Thankfully my 06 Saturn with the 2.0 Ecotec cares not about the cold and starts instantly (y)

4 degrees here in the mid west. Question for those of you who have a heat pump and are experiencing these unusually cold temps, how is it keeping up? Have your auxilary heat strips kicked in, or are you using another method to get supplement heat?

Good question, I just sent a message to a friend with a heat pump, asking how it's done through our prolonged cold stretch.

Mine is a 2012 American Standard and I have it set to use the auxiliary heat at 27 F. The auxiliary heat is my Viesmann propane fired boiler and water to air heat exchanger. If it’s humid outside I manually switch over to avoid the defrost cycles.

We have Mitsubishi heat pumps that are designed for use in cold climates. They continue to produce useful heat down to about -5F. Then, we throw in the towel and turn on the oil fired hot water baseboard system that we left in place after the heat pump installation.

What's extreme cold? ;) Temps are forecast to be in the teens here in North AL tonight, and hopefully that's the last of what we consider extreme cold until next year. We'll be mowing grass here this time next month. 🌞🍀☀️
