Extra large capacity hedge trimmers???

I have an Echo click-link hedge trimmer. It has just about an inch capacity. However, in reality, it won't cut more than 3/4 of an inch without grinding away on the branch. There is no lack of power and if it had a larger opening, it would easily cut palm frons and the like.

I went to the local "pro" store and the trimmers they sell all have the same capacity as mine.

I know I have seen hedge type trimmers with a very large capacity in the past. But, I cannot find any.

Suggestions please. a 1 1/2 inch capacity would be great.

Hedgetrimmers are not designed to remove thick branches, just the new growth that pops out every year. The opening space of the teeth does not indicate the size of branch it will cut.

You need some tree pruning equipment or a small chain saw as pre recommendation. Echo make wonderful small saws for very good prices.

I've got 2 good chainsaws. I really don't like hacking through the dense yearly growth with a flailing chainsaw. It's tight going as things grow like crazy in South Florida. I feel it's not safe.

It's mostly Cocoplum, Palmetto and Vines. All of which the Echo cuts without problem, until the diameter is too much.

This stuff is NOT Oak saplings. The Palms are succulent and soft. Easy to cut. But, a royal pain by hand using a machete.
