External Transmission Filter?

As you can see, my transmission is sealed and filter is in the middle of two transmission cases. I can't change it due to skill and cost issue. May I ask if anyone has experience mounting an external filter for transmission? Or is such thing even exist?
So far this filter has 156k miles on it:cry:
 
As I recall, one of the selling points of Saturn, at least when they first came out, is that the cars had an external, spin-on filter for transmission fluid. That's the only one I remember being designed that way, but I'm sure there are others.

In this case, if the fluid hasn't been touched in 156k miles, I think conventional wisdom says don't mess with it, but I'll let those with actual experience give advice.

Thanks. Fluid has been changed frequently at 20k mi oci, just the filter is still in "life time" mode
 
Subaru used to put a spin on filter on their transmissions. I wish they still did. I wish everyone did.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard that the logic behind internal transmission filters, is to encourage regular transmission changes. But I don't know how that aligns with the current trend of auto manufacturers claiming that no service is required on transmissions.

I've considered putting an external filter on my wife's Outback, because it too has the filter buried deep in the CVT. I've looked, and can't find an external filter kit offered specifically for this application.
 
There are several external filter kits available for many transmissions. I once did a searh for them for another car than the one I have now. I didn't go further than a search, but if you search for "external filters for automatic transmissions" you will get several hits. Then it's up to you to investigate.

My knowledge and some small experience has been with B&M. They've been around a long time, since the early days of hot rodding. I first earned of them in 1957, when they were starting to build a reputation for themselves. By the early to mid 60s you'd see a lot of quick cars sporting B&M decals. My friend Tom was running a B&M modified hydramatic out at the Westhampton drag strip in 1964-65. I digress ... taking my own little trip down memory lane. I would start with them and see what they offer.
