From the Microsoft Windows Insider Program Forum.
Expiration Dates for Windows 10 Technical Preview Thread
I should mention that Da Costa's reply is about 2 weeks old, so somewhat timely.
This thread starts out asking about Technical Preview expiration dates. The answer, at the top of page one, covers through Build 10049. Speculation later on is that all builds will expire at that time because final release will be out in July.
But, if you go to page 4 of the thread and scroll down to Andre Da Costa's reply to a question about "Migration from expired builds to final release", I think you'll find it informative.
He provides links to How To pages on migration from Windows 10 Preview, How To Reinstall/Restore original Windows Installs, How To do a custom Install, How to do a build to build upgrade and more.
He also provides insight on Upgrade Paths including a Matrix AND he responds to the following question. I've copied and pasted his answer.
Will I be able to upgrade from the Windows 10 Technical Preview to the final release?
There is has been some debate regarding qualification for the final release of Windows 10.
Microsoft has noted the intention is to provide a direct upgrade path from the Preview to the final release. Of course, decisions can change. Recently, the company noted that you could upgrade non genuine licenses to Windows 10, but later it was found out, that license would be non genuine.
So, to be on the safe side, its best you ensure you have a valid genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 license installed in order to qualify for the final release. Company officials have noted though if you join the Windows Insider Program and upgrade from Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 to Windows 10, you will qualify for the free upgrade to the final release.
