I have a commerical mower that calls for mobil 1 15w50 in the hydro system. But, Exmark says that mobil 1 changed their formulation since 2004 and that now they make their own oil because it protects better. They say I can go 500 hours on Exmark or 250 on Mobil 1. Does anybody know how these two oils compare and where the heck can I even purchase mobil 1 15w50 anymore. I don't see it at Walmart or at Advance auto or Autozone. What happened to it? Thanks.

I was gonna saw WM my local carries a lot in 5qt jugs but maybe because Road America is a few miles up. If I were to make a change I would use the spec fluid from Amsoil works great. Valvoline VR1 racing 20W50 is another go to oil.

would a motorcycle/atv oil work? as many are formulated for engines and transmissions in the same sump.

I'm curious what temperature does the hydro oil run at in this application? I was surprised on my John Deere to find that on a 90 degree day the hydro oil was at 170F so no issues with thermal stress.

The amsoil looks good, but $60 plus for a gallon is my issue. I see mobil 1 is online at walmart for less than half the price. Exmark no longer recommends it because Mobil 1 changed the formulation and now longer has "x" in it. I am not sure what the "x" is. My hydro pumps have over 4k hours on them with mobil 1 and they have "weeped" since they had 1k hours. So......I have to add a little bit every few weeks. Mobil 1 used to be easily found, so it was no big deal to run down to Wally World and get more. Thanks.

Being that the Valvoline is at Walmart, how does the VR1 race oil compare to Mobil 1? I am really trying to avoid going with a brand that is not easily found locally. Thanks again.

M1 15W-50 remains a superb oil. Use it with confidence.

WalMart here always has jugs of 15W-50, and of course they will ship it to you. I've had great luck ordering oil from WalMart.

My local Wal Marts have plenty of M1 15w50 so that gets my vote.
