Hey all. Just picked up a new battery from advance auto to replace my OEM honda Johnson controls battery that lasted since 09.

Is this a equal quality battery to replace it with? I ended up getting it for 98 bucks. 51r size

Here is a pic of the said battery.

JCI

I'm sure it's a fine product, but I'm no fan of them. My biggest complaint of them is they leak and corrode the terminals, as well as cover the top in acid. This is not a byproduct of over tightening the terminals as the acid often comes from the vents.

Many will say it's from overcharging, but when a competitor's battery won't leak a drop in the same car, I'm convinced it's the battery/vent cap configuration.

That is a good battery. Have AAP batteries in 3 of my 4 cars.
Good warranties and great value.
Hope you bought on line and used a discount code.
I use the felt washers and use the aerosol protector on the cables. No problems.

Oh yea I saved big time that way! Love the online coupons!

I'd be leery with Exide's bankruptcy protection proceedings. You might be able to get a good deal, but claiming on the warranty might be next-to-impossible.

Yeha, that is why they are trying to screw me out of a rebate for one of their L&G batteries that I purchased last season, even though they have the same rebate on the same battery right now.
Not exceptionally happy with Rural King, either.

Interstate rep I deal with says it's the vents. Besides that, they are good batteries. I just hate having to constantly clean and coat the terminals.

Hello, No empirical input here, just anecdotal.
I can, however, elevate my anecdotes by calling them "personal experiences".

The battery in the only new car I ever owned was made by and marked Johnson Controls. It lasted forever. DuraLast batteries from AutoZone are made by Johnson Controls.

Several people on this board have maligned them whilst offering no evidence of any caliber.

The one failed AZ/JC battery in my family was in my sister's Jeep months AFTER her alternator had failed. I had no knowledge of this electrical woe; not a time line, occurrences of jump starts etc., absolutely no knowledge.

The battery died January 2011 during month 35 of the 36 month "FREE REPLACEMENT" period. AutoZone replaced it the moment I was done telling them about it.

Now, for a new car and a trip to Hawaii, can you tell us who continues to get my family's battery business? You have 5 seconds. Kira

I hate to propagate the whole "internet anecdote" thing to bash a product...but I've had 2 Exide batteries, and neither made it 3 years. I skipped the subsidized replacement the second time and just bought a new JC battery. Now I don't have to clean the terminals of green fuzz every other month...

I will not buy another Exide battery. I now think there's something to all of the Exide anecdotes I've read!

I really hope my autocraft gold doesn't leak or corrode too bad since getting to the battery in my car is a royal pain in the butt since I had to relocate it lower in the engine bay and my intake is above it now

I'm sure your AAP battery will be just fine. I almost bought a 51R Gold through AAP (would have been the same price too... about $98 after WI tax and $40 off code).

I ended up buying my 51R yesterday at a local Mills Fleet Farm for $72.99 plus WI tax. $5 off normal price this week for anyone else interested... http://fleetfarm.shoplocal.com/FleetFarm...otionViewMode=0 (page 16)

Because the topic is exide or JCI.

The longest lasting exide I have ever had is still running in my Taurus on its last leg an Ever ready dated from early 2009 and it's probably only lasted that long because I don't drive that car often the past year plus and I've had to pull it and charge it if sits more than 2 weeks.

I had it charged and tested and it's holding a surface charge but CCA are down over 150 of rated. I guess it's doing okay but has been leaking a bit.

They are my absolute favorites- not only for the reasons I mentioned earlier, but also because I have personally had good luck with them lasting.
