Exhaust Work

I am in the west Detroit suburbs and can only think of one shop I would trust to do exhaust work. I think anywhere you are the problem is that finding a good shop is like finding a needle in a haystack. You need two things to line up: mechanical/diagnostic competency and honesty. Hard enough to find one let alone both at the same place. Depending on what you need done, it may be simpler and more certain to do it yourself.

Well I stopped at the local Midas this evening(on Route 60). Called first to make sure exhaust repair estimates were free. Turns out most of the problem was that an exhaust hanger came loose from the mounting point( horrible rattle..mostly at stop lights). Inexpensive fix. Secondly the muffler is bad(a baffle or two is loose...you can hear it). They want over $200 to replace the muffler and tailpipe. Any suggestions for a better place to have it done?

They may do fine, but I would have a Dynomax Super Turbo (about $50) installed for better exhaust flow. It will get louder though. Or a Walker Quiet Flow muffler. $200 is steep unless it stainless steel? Midas is probably fine especially for the simple work you need done. Can alway check online for customer reviews or at BBB.

I'd go for quality and experience when dealing with exhausts.

I had a custom setup done on my 1990 Mazda RX-7 and they had what looked like an 18 year weld the pipes together. I came back within days due to an increasing exhaust leak. They experienced tech that worked on it this time found two (2) places where the weld was bad and thus causing a leak.

Same here.

There is only ONE place, which is not even all that 'local' to me which I trust.

I will gladly go out of my way, and pay more for the work once there to have exactly what I want done correctly, the first time.

An easy (and fun) way to find the BEST exhaust shop in your area is to attend the local hot rod car shows.

Those guys know where the good pipe benders are.
