Exhaust System Sounds Like A Drum

I had my mechanic buddy help me heli arc the intake manifold bolt, I also:

1) Changed the rotor since it looked worn out
2) Vacuum Advance Diaphragm was shot, replaced it
3) The cap was fine, but I will be changing it tommorow

The car is running great and I am going too bleed the brakes tomorrow.

You want that vacuum advance for sure! Better economy and less fouling when cruising, by far.
But under load, the vacuum advance 'goes away' anyway. Full throttle problems from it being inactive are very unlikely. VA is for part throttle use.
The vacuum leak it had is no good, but probably only a small contributor.
Yes, you HAVE to get the mechanical advance working right! Sometimes it gums up internally, and you have to take the whole distributor out and tear it down to clean and lube it. I've had to do this a lot in past years.
Without the mech advance working, you will not be able to set the initial advance right, and it will run poorly all over in any conditions.

mechtech2, it is amazing how much smoother the car is. I knew something was wrong when my fuel economy was going down.

Since this vacuum advance has been replaced with a new 1, I am going too get some new spark plugs and install them. I am sure the old spark plugs are a little messed up, better to be safe than sorry.
