I had to vent this excitement somewhere....

But I stopped at my local independent muffler/brake shop after work today to get a quote on a new exhaust for my truck.

The owner said he just put all new OEM exhaust on his rebuilt 1992 Silverado about a 1000 miles ago, but he is about to start some engine upgrades and will re-do the exhaust. He said he'd take his system off and install it on my truck for $350.

That includes new exhaust manifolds, y-pipe, catalytic converter delete, and a muffler/tail pipe off a 2011 Silverado that he cut off a truck to install a custom exhaust for a recent customer. Holy Smokes!! I'm so happy. I not only found a guy willing to do the CAT delete (my oil burning truck still has the factory CAT), but also completely new EVERYTHING for a ridiculously low price.

Yeah for me!! Even the sun shines on a dog's [censored] sometimes.

Thats just swell. Why don't you post about the other things that you do that are against FEDERAL law?

IIRC, Phishin's truck has 175,000 miles on it and burns a quart every few hundred miles.

The only thing that CAT is doing at this age/mileage is restricting the exhaust...its days of converting anything are long gone...and by blocking the exhaust, it's causing the engine to run less efficiently and burn more fuel....

Astro is correct. The CAT isn't doing anything. It never will do anything. It's causing me problems.

Do you know many 1980-1998 Chevy trucks have no CAT's? A million. I'm having my valve seals replaced early this week. Once that happens, I'm going on a 300 mile high way run. Normally that would burn 1 quart of oil in my truck. If it still burns oil, no CAT. If my oil consumption is fixed or GREATLY reduced, I'll consider the CAT.

I'm not an environmental idiot. That is why I got two Honda scooters that get me 100 mpg's and I'm currently building an electric motor driven work car.

Headed to the exhaust stop in just a few minutes to pick up my truck. Can't wait to see and feel how bad my clogged CAT was holding her back.

I'm gonna try to get these parts back....we'll see. I'm betting he was planning on scrapping these parts to help make up for the cheap deal he was giving me.

That is against the law. Call him on it.

I let him keep it. He said it was so full of oil, he could probably only get $30-40 for it at the scrap yard.

Besides, he did a killer job welding in a new 60" long 3" piece of stainless pipe between the Y- pipe and the muffler.

I mean, for $300, he installed new manifolds, y-pipe, and intermediate pipe....welded it all in nicely....and put a new oxygen sensor in it. Plus, for me, I put valve in him NOT making me put a CAT on it. He can keep the CAT.

Truck is whisper quiet. Runs so much better...especially at idle.

Next up, new valve seals. Btw, one manifold came off in 3 pieces, the other side 2 pieces. Both were cracked badly. Needless to say, my 'valve tick' is gone.
