Exhaust power gain question.

This applies up to a point - in your case, a 4" diameter pipe will lose power everywhere.
Your bottom end will most likely be soggier. But NOT because of less back pressure. No engine likes back pressure. It retains exhaust gas in the cylinder, and there is more mass of gas in the pipe to push out. This is why low end suffers with big pipes.

Normal driving is not at full throttle and high RPMs a lot. 98% is just normal driving at part throttle. But if you want the power, the bigger pipes make it available.
How much? Good bends make a world of difference, as do the mufflers. But 10-15HP should be in the ball park.

I agree.

Also, I meant to say in my post earlier that the gears will help with the better exhaust. Opening up the exhaust can hurt low end power a little but help the top end. Basically moving the power band. The higher gear ratio will help the low end. The higher torque multiplication will make it feel like you gained HP even though it went down a little with the exhaust.

Your probably right, but it made me think enough to realize it wasn't worth me going from a 3.27 to a 3.55 lol. Might have to think about those headers tho....

Yeah, usually people jump at least two steps in order to realize a gain. I agree, I probably wouldnt jump from 3.27 to 3.55. It wouldnt be worth the cost. Im stuck with 2.73s though, so... :p

The silence is deafening. All I asked for was an explanation.

Willing to learn. Teach me.

Earlier in the year I had a Borla Cat-back installed on my Supercharged 2004 Monte Carlo SS Dale Jr edition that already had duel exhaust. The stock pipes on this car are 2 1/4" and the Borla system is 2 1/2". I cannot tell any increase in power but it does sound slightly better.

Read this. I'm not sure if it will completely answer the question but might help you anwer it yourself.

Thank you very much, but I've been racing cars for 40 years and there was nothing new in there for me. But I did enjoy reading it!

I never said there was a practical difference in car exhausts.
Are you high?

Nice explanation. Like I already said once, the silence is deafening.

The question still remains unanswered. Perhaps you should get high?

Why or how would I answer/explain something I did not subscribe to?
