I just bought a flowtech exhaust for my 97 z28 camaro and really want it installed but i dont know what kind of store i should take it to and what i should tell them. I called 2 muffler stores and it seemed like they didnt want to do it. There are no emission tests in my area and it is going after the cats for now so i don't think it would matter that much. Well, what should i tell them and what kind of shop do i want? How much should i expect to pay as well(I just want a part of my y pipe taken out and i want it welded into place)?

Visit some shops in person and find one with a nicer-than-average car parked out in front. Go in and talk to the mechanics; when you call on the phone you get "the boss". Listen to the tone of what they're telling you; it might be as a franchisee for example they have to buy their parts from headquarters but could fit you in on-the-side.

Is the y-pipe in front of your (single) cat? I'm having a hard time picturing this.

I wouldn't think it would be that big of problem...they're not illegal. I don't know about your state, but here you're not even legally required to have a muffler as long as you are under the noise limit. Maybe you could tell them it's for offroad use only.

I have an eletric 3" cutout on my 02 SS LS1 Camaro. I am running Longtubes to a 3" Y Pipe w Magnaflow High flow cats to a 4"to3.5" merge collector then through the 3" I pipe where my cutout is located. I have it placed right before the I pipe bends and goes over the axle. There's a nice spot right there for a cutout. Even after the cats it's loud as **** ! Tell your muffler shop it's only for the dragstrip and you will have no problems. They are not illegal but are label for offroad use only.

any muffler shop should do it for you.

just call them and ask or go in and show them what you want done and ask for a price. shouldn't be too much.

Thanks for the help guys.

Umm, im not gonna be a jerk with the cutout and distrubing peace and quiet. Im gonna get the electronic control plate and ill leave it closed except for sometimes when i want it opened. Fair enough?

The only reason I would see anyone having a problem installing this is because you probably dont' have the cutout exiting out from underneith the car. If it leaks (naturally you would hear it if it was open) and CO killed you as you slept stuck in a snow bank, they would be potentially liable.
