1/8" = 4/32, plus the 2/32 of the wear bars and you have 6/32". Some new ones are 10/32. Got plenty of life!

As a point of reference, a walkman(tm) headphone jack is 1/8" or 4/32". Sometimes you can lay these sidways well enough to get a feel.

seen where the new measurement for tire tread is when you can see top of WASHINGTON's head on a quarter , not the top of LINCOLN's head ( penny )for considering new tire(s) . Checked tire pressure for both cars since it's been cooler and dropped . Were at 34 p.s.i. when warmer . Most tires for both cars read at around 31 and 1/2 . Reset them to 34 again . Both cars call for 32 p.s.i. all around .

I replace my tires when they lose their edge. I bought new ones at 30k miles cause they didn't work in wet conditions. The gut who bought them liked my idea. I want to get another set of wheels/tires for just the summer then switch back to the winter set for snow.

I usually notice their tires while I'm stopped at a red light. I find it ridiculous to see a $2000 vehicle that has 24" wagon wheels and rubber band tires that are bald.

The tires on my 528e are good until it rains, then they get slippery. I bought a good set of tires for the wife's car after a dry rotted tire blew out while parked. I forget what they are but she likes 'em. Should get a set for me.

Now, to add to this, I did reduce the fine when he came to court. He had his tires replaced and was again in compliance. I wasn't totally cold hearted.

I run my stuff down pretty far in summer.

This keeps my good tires good, since they are stored on their own rims. Two sets of rims (or six matching ones) lets me take my good tires off during the summertime, when the hot pavement would wilt them and they are not really needed anyway.

My worn tread set can get down past 4 or 3/32" for all I care. I can't go into winter with 4/32" but come summertime they are fine.

I never have to throw out a set before I get my use out of them. It pays for the extra rims itself. This is even better when I have a nice quality tire that handles and rides well, it still works great at low tread in summer and like I said, the practice benefits my good ones, letting them be stored.

Usually such a car is passing me when I'm doing the speed limit +/- 5 I.E. 60-70 MPH.
