Ever been late on a credit card?

I broke Credit Karma. I've had an account there for a few years and all of the sudden i can no longer access it. I can log it but that's it. I was told I have to create a new account by their support team. But if I'd have followed their advice I would not have a high credit score. So no sense making another account.

I hate the paperless billing. It is almost always the cause of my neglect.
Oh... and how a misplaced click of the mouse and you end up with paperless. It just happened to me on my Citicard and not the first time with a credit card.
I pay my cards about the same time every month online and I have maybe for well over a decade.
However I still like paper in the mail because I can look at it without logging in and it can be a reminder too.

Anyway, just the other day, Im in my online checking account and the payments that are going to going out over the next 7 days (which is typically the credit cards) and I see my Citicard payment isnt there. That is typically a 1 to 2k bill a month. So I go to Citi online and with the amount due enter it in my online checking, all good.

I then go back to the Citi Site and I see I turned on paperless billing at some point last month. Its easy to do if you logging in on the fly, the paperless page comes up with the box PRE -checked for paperless and not paying attention you click continue so you can get to the main page, not knowing you just signed up for paperless billing.

I get paper sent for everything, my wife and I have a fair amount of credit card accounts and all of them are not joint credit card accounts, except for banking accounts. If something were to happen to me or her we would have no idea without paper coming to the house.

There is a simple reason not to have joint credit card accounts. If something happens to you they cant go after your spouse. Not that I am concerned but it's just common sense not to have joint accounts.

I used to love thinking any and all paper is what I want, now I am 180°. I have no use for paper.

E-mail and text reminders on bills due, paid, etc work really well for us. In fact our trash bill can be paid online and it's the last holdover to send paper US Snailmail we don't need.

I've missed payments on everything. It happens. I'm still paying my natural gas bill $99 short because I missed a payment in 2010 and they think they are holding a $99 deposit on me.

So your wife is not an authorize user on your accounts? Because they still still come after an authorize user.

We never pay any bills by paper check. Even if as you say your trash bill, our credit union will mail a paper check for us.

With that said, call me crazy but my comfort level is not making things easier and cheaper for companies by not sending out paper and actually supporting the Postal Employees by not opting out.
I do agree it gets redundant and once in a great fleeting moment think about opting out but then I think I like it this way. Maybe once I get the dozen or so email accounts that I have under control would be another thing and at the same time, if something should happen to me or my wife, paper will alert us since we dont share accounts.

No, my wife is not an authorized user of any of my credit card accounts and I am not an authorized user of any of hers.
There is no reason for it other than help the charge card companies go after your spouse if something should happen to you.

Plus it would cost us money in cash back as we mostly get 5% back on everything we buy, but her cards have perks and my cards have perks and you use the cards in any given period of the most cash back.

Here is the perfect example. She has a Citi Card that gives 5% back during any month of the highest spending category. My cards right now do not give 5% back in restaurants. I get 5% on all gasoline, Walmart and groceries. I have a 2% Citicard which is the same all year and Amex with 3% in various categories all year.

So when we go out to eat during this 3 month period, since my cards have no 5% back on dinners we use her card exclusively for that and get 5% back on all restaurants. We tend to eat quality food (not fast food) so that 5% adds up too.

She also has other perks on other cards such as Amazon and I have other perks on others such as AMEX
None of these cards do we have authorized users on them.

Unrelated = We also buy $200 gift cards for Bonefish Grill and related companies for an additional 10% $200 cost $180 is another way to save money and then being a dine rewards customer we get bill credits on top of that and when buying the $200 gift cards we use online for $180 we also get another 2% back from my Citicard. 🙂

My wife and I are anything but cheap but I enjoy as a hobby of taking all the money that corporate America leaves on the table for me to have, and it's all free. So why not take it? I mean, why leave money with companies when they offer it for free?

Unrelated is Medicare Advantage. So far this year at zero cost to me except for the mandatory ($175) , my plan paid for a new Apple Watch 9 and two pickleball paddles. I still have another $500 to spend and I am unsure what to buy, I think maybe go to Orange Theory for $130 a month next 3 months. There is free money everywhere.
Next year if the same plan is offered I think I will try the new $700+ Apple Watch *LOL*

That's great! It's how you play the game!

Yeah, you know, I am not anti free markets or anti corporations (you must know that by now) but they will and do take advantage of people knowing people do not read and understand what they are spending and buying from a company. Im simply taking the money that others leave on the table, if I dont, the shareholders get it.
BTW- "take advantage" is the wrong word, meaning, if the people read what they are buying or buying into they wouldnt be taken advantage if that makes any sense. Anyway, I enjoy taking the money they offer.

We will pass the $2000 mark this year with card CASH rebates after using THEIR money for 20+ days every month This with very little effort, no changing and poking, buying gift cards. I'm basically a lazy person in some respects, even the wife now didn't bend over to pick up a quarter on a sidewalk (ok I would be all over that  :p :ROFLMAO: ) . But I'm not Mr Coupon or anything.

Great! We have major travel coming up and the Costco card will easily be pass $1,000.00 with travel and everything else. AS we discussed all before-it's all a game and you just need to know how to play!

I don't pay the bills by mail, I use the checking billpay or directly to a site for a ACH payment. But the paper bills have the amount paid and when and from where I keep for about a year

Used my American Express on my home owners insurance the other day. (no extra fee)

The $1815 bill got me $37 and some change in rewards. I'll take the money.

Pay it down online the day after your plane tickets hit the card. You don't have to wait for the statement to close.
I’m willing to bet you’re the type of person who believes in paying back your debt. My dad was like that. He got in trouble when his business failed in the early 90’s, but he told me he would never consider bankruptcy and would pay back everything he owed. I think this made his life so much more difficult from the early 90’s to the mid 2000’s, but he stuck to his principles.

When I have paid back as you suggest? I’ve wanted to make a small charge, to keep an account active. And so I wouldn’t forget, I’d want to make payment immediately. But I’d find many cards don’t let one pay if there is no balance or the charge hasn’t posted. And so I’d have to wait a few days.

When I got my ~$4k mower from Lowes with 6 months same as cash, I immediately paid 1/7th of the total.

Update: Checked my citi bank account and my credit score dropped 140 points. curious to see how long it will take to go back up .

Wat until you near max one out. You really take a hit at about 80%. If paid off in 30 days it takes 2 months to recover.
