I'm trying to see if I can get her to lose a bit of weight by not letting her eat as much.
I used to obsess over my cats' diets in ways, like I do with my own diet. Hopefully I'm done obsessing over their diets and will focus on my own diet.
Many people have cats that live to 15-20 years on inexpensive canned, or even dry cat foods.
I wouldn't go back to feeding them dry cat food full time like I used to do, but I feed them dry food 1-2x a week.

Feed them meat, cats are still related to tigers and they only eat meat.

Give them boiled chicken
I've fed my cats a lot of meat over the years, but for some reason lately they're very picky about when they will eat raw meats. I fed them raw pork and raw chicken. Cubby loved raw chicken with the bones. Cats have strong digestive acids that neutralize pathogens in raw meat.
Ideally you would mix the raw meat with organ meats and a whole food and herbal powder mix you can buy online that contains everything else they need besides meat. There is a FB forum called Feline Nutrition. Sometimes they will eat cooked meats also, but when is hard to say.

She was sitting on the back of the sofa when I was reading, and her claw got hooked into my t shirt so I reached back to unhook it and she hissed at me. Lol, that's a female cat trait.

Yep, I think because they are picky they are trying to get something they need which is weird.

This calico cat needs to be on a bit of a diet too.... I'm cutting her food back about 20 percent.

I sing a song to her that has a familiar ring to it... Instead of Funky Town. It's...

" Take me to a chunky cat"...

And they probably have high cholesterol because of it. Would it hurt them to eat a vegetable once in a while? Neighbor's cat comes over sometimes. Scarfs down a handful of potato chips I give her.

Vegetables dont hurt, you can feed them chopped carrots, broccoli florets (the tree looking thing), spinach, and pumpkin.

Just make sure you steam them

Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning that their digestive tract cannot process vegetable matter and they must have meat to survive. Vegetables won't harm them in moderation, but they get little nutritional value due to their short guts.

Our vet stressed to us that weight loss programs are very stressful for cats, both physically and mentally, and should be pretty gradual. Transitioning from free feeding (keeping the bowl full all the time) to portions was the key and only after that was established for a while did we pare back on the amounts. We started by giving the amount recommended on package for his actual (fatty) weight and over a few months tapered down to the amount for his target weight. He was not happy about this at all, by the way, and let us know it.

I'm sure it depends what vegetable, and how much. They eat grass if they want to throw up, btw...

Salty potato chips aren't a good food choice for cats. If you really want to feed a cat vegetables, feed them whole vegetables, not processed junk food that's deep fried in trans fats.

It may take 30 years to kill YOU. More than the lifespan of any cat. And why shouldn't your cat have a guilty pleasure once in a while?
for real, I let all 49 cats eat some stuff they like, beer, malt liquor, they love second hand cigar smoke, and potato chips.

My cats manage to snag an occasional human food snack. They do like their Greenies though. Salty snacks are very bad for cats who are naturally prone to kidney problems.
