We have actual major moves happening in the EV world and it's unfortunate that it has to do with policy. Sorry it's political, but this is getting nuts. Might as well shut down the whole EV forum. This is life right now as an EV owner.

That is old news, others noticed it mentioned over a month ago. (Feel free to discuss it there)

Silly part is the stuff being removed is obsolete equipment that is already paid off and requires those who use it to pay and have an account. (Yes I Encountered GSA visitor “stations”, very slow, very middling, very old, GSA more or less quit buying anything new a decade ago as the 8000 units lines up to what’s been in place since 2016ish)

Paying $$$ to Remove antique obsolete equipment that costs nothing, that requires users to pay and is of no salvage value…
Sort of like shooting a dead horse after beating it.

There's plenty of places to talk about EVs and politics that aren't a motor oil forum.

Might as well shut down the whole EV forum.
Seems like you made his point

I've not had any actual politics issues from driving an ev.
My $500 beater EV from decades ago had strangers accusing me of various politically motivated phopahs which I had to clear up, considering they treated driving my $500 beater as being elitist and other feigned sins against humanity, guessing it’s the region I live in. I did also have positive and curious interactions as well.

Quite the gentlemanly approach, I'd say locking a thread BEFORE it degenerates 😋

Used to be a supermod in a manly, sweaty, hairy offroad forum where everybody was the boss and everybody knew best. They were always first on the spot with winches and supplies when a flood or any other disaster would hit and were solid people in person, but in the in-between while anchored behind a keyboard, it was all a bubbling vat of boiling testosterone.

When a potentially slippery thread would point its nose, we were simply putting an announcement on top that heads would roll if things get hairy, and that the rules are clear.
Things would get hairy, and heads would roll. Bans would fly (usually fixed-term ones), and the thread would survive as long as there was any useful info to get from it.

The banned ones would return kicking and screaming, never failing to confirm the magic formula that the more one boasts about leaving a forum - the faster they'd return - if they leave at all. It was doubly a delight to see them come back and act like it never happened and they didn't scream that they'll never set foot in that forum again.

As for the logic of having an EV section in a MOTOR oil forum - there's little logic indeed.
Good thing that the forum is called Bob is the oil guy, not Bob is the motor oil guy then, ain't it ? 😋.

I was surprised to find that a standard EV uses twice the amount of coolant my n54 uses (20 liters vs 10.4), and that their drive units use twice the amount of fluid my x-drive transfer case uses.

If you have a concern about moderation here on BITOG, and it appears that you do, then, please follow our guidelines to address those concerns.

Thread 'Complaint Process'
https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/complaint-process.310544/

Otherwise, I would look to your fellow members for their inability to stick to the topic.

EVs, their technology, and utility, as well as member experiences with them are a legitimate area of discussion.

The political conduct of an EV company CEO is not appropriate for these pages.

BITOG is an anomaly; it's an ol'skool website that still does very well in the age of social media giants like FB, IG, X, TT, etc ....
The reason we survive thrive is because we have fashioned rules which promote very positive effects in general public search results. This leads to growth in membership. The rules may seem heavy-handed at times, but they are necessary to have the website continue its path of success.

It is unfortunate that some topics just seem to draw contention and hysteria. Often an OP will have good intentions of talking to one specific point, but it won't take long before some others ruin it. Happens all the time. This is why Religion, Politics, Sex and other hot-button topics are absolutely forbidden here. And history (experience) has taught us that other topics like EVs are very skittish; they can go off the rails quickly. If only one person were causing a problem, it's easy for a Moderator to deal with that one person. But when it becomes a feeding frenzy of two sides bickering back and forth, the only way to deal with it is lock the topic, and depending on severity, maybe send the thread into Quarantine (where it's out of public view). There are 8 active Moderators to oversee a site which has over 80,000 members ... do the math. If a thread goes awry and tensions are flaring, posts can go up faster than any Moderator can deal with it. Things get locked, bans are issued, warnings sent, etc.

I was the Mod who recently locked the thread about Government EVs being abandoned. There was no way that was going to end well, and anyone who's been a member here more than three days knows it. But, the topic itself may interest some folks, so I left the OPs post up so others could at least find the source of the topic and view it elsewhere.

We encourage debate based in good faith and civil conduct. When that doesn't happen, it reflects poorly on BITOG. While it is sad that a rotten apple or two will spoil the barrel, it's a fact of life on the 'web. And the Mods have been around here long enough to know (almost instinctively) when something is about to go nuclear, and we will deal with it with the site's best interest in mind.

Strangers rarely approach me, and never to run their mouth.

Your lucky, it’s been a thing around here forever and not just on EVs, people seem to believe their opinions are important to express.

Another good one is continuous unreported parking lot damage . Had a woman ram said 45 year old EV in the rear crash bumper with her shopping cart and fall over. I was sitting inside going through coupons.

I've had people try to drive me off the road and while coal rolling me. That's happened 4 times in almost 3 years of EV ownership. Some people are unhinged. Most have been people waiting to yell at me as I'm getting out of the car or blocking me from backing out while yelling some political anti EV nonsense. It's been calmer lately though.

I'm sure it wholly depends on where you live. That's what I used to get here. It's been a bit since that stuff has happened. I have a guess to why it stopped, but I don't want to make a political statement.

No politics needed, we all know human beings, a significant percentage of them are defective, regardless of political affiliation.
They will look for any reason to create a confrontation

That's sad, I've seen my fair share of EVs, never once did I see anyone show any signs of coming unhinged or being disrespectful to the driver. OTOH I have seen a lot of young kids driving them like a-holes, along with ICE BMWs, MB, and chopped Civics. My wish was a State Trooper was around to impound the cars.

Never had anyone say or do anything rude to me in almost 2 years of EV commuting. I did have a guy in a Tacoma last week ask how I liked the car in bumper to bumper traffic. I told him it’s a great commuter and I used to have a Raptor. He said he was considering getting a Tesla for his commute too.

Had a late teen/ early 20s guy come up to me today while I was siting in my FILs Ferrari at Publix waiting on my wife. He was geeking out and said “nice car!” and asked if I’d give it a little rev. Seemed like it made his day.

They were definitely younger that were driving like that. Your average adult doesn't act that way. The people yelling at me in parking lots were older, older than me at least. This was a couple of years ago when it was more prevalent and there weren't many EVs here at the time. It got a reaction from some for sure.

I have dashcam footage of a lifted Ford swerving head on into our lane while my wife was driving while giving us the finger. This is before I had my car. It was also before I had any issue beyond a couple of people yelling stuff. I didn't know it was that bad just owning a Tesla at the time. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't experienced it. I know it's fringe nutzo people acting like this. Some people just can't contain themselves. For that matter I don't know what the motivation was beyond the people confronting me in parking lots. Those people had something to say. It felt like real life Facebook comments. I'm in a really small town that I didn't grow up in so I'm a bit of an outsider here. I don't know if that makes a difference.

As far as other cars, I'm used to having conversations about vehicles. Nothing got more comments than the 2004 GTO I had. That one was fun because it did cause some confusion. There were people that thought they were front wheel drive V6s. Those that really knew I couldn't get rid of if I wanted to. It was fun talking cars with random people.

Yeah that conduct goes BOTH ways…
