EV maker files...

This is normal part of automakers. Early in ICE many makers got reduced to mostly what we see today and a few others.

I know little about Fisker however might be a good starting place for a car maker (Chinese?) to make a go of EV market.

I recently watch 2 YouTube videos(Auto Buyers Guide/AlexOnAutos & Consumer Reports) that were not favorable for the Fisker Ocean.
Lots of quality issues. Both YouTubers had different Fisker Ocean vehicles(not the same shared vehicle between publications). AlexOnAutos on the West Coast and CR on the East Cost. And both Ocean vehicles had many/similar quality issues.

I'm not in this financial camp of purchasing really expensive vehicles. I mean, I have the funds to buy(within reason...IDK, $50K-$60K) any vehicle that we(wife & I) would even entertain buying. However, we couldn't do it every 3-5 years for the rest of our lives. We're more along the lines of buying a $30K vehicle every 10-12 years. We do stay with the mainstream vehicles that offer value, reliability, desire, etc., etc.

I just don't have the time nor the patience for this kind of 1970s build quality/reliability and fuss for any vehicle. I already went through this 50 years ago with poor vehicle quality/reliability and poor service and I don't want to do it today.

Being retired, we have reduced the amount of vehicles that we own as we just don't need that many. We've always had 3 vehicle at all times (now down to 2) and we've owned as many as 5 vehicles in the past. I just can't nor want to maintain that many vehicles anymore.

Same boat. No way we would pony up to something like this at those high prices either. EV notwithstanding. In fact, when my wife finally pulls the plug (not on me 😜), we will probably downsize to just one vehicle and it WON'T be electric. We have the golf cart for that.

Indeed. Years ago I had a book that listed all car makers (prior to like 1980), it was a huge amount of short lived makers.

And the number keeps getting smaller. Plymouth? Pontiac? AMC?

I had a former coworker who preordered the Ocean 1.5 years ago. I wish him well, he was not wealthy and was likely pulled into the hype because of its halo car (Karma).

Lexus or Toyota hybrid. A bit boring and not the latest tech but has been proven.

I saw an Ocean about a month ago and thought it was a pretty good looking vehicle. And they've been dropping the price to try and get cash in this crunch. Some user reviews nothwithstanding, tere are some professional reviews that say it's pretty good other than the questions about the financial viability of the company.

Marques Brownlee called it the worst car he's ever reviewed. Seriously all these EV startups, there's one that has made it 10+ years (Tesla) and another trying hard (Rivian), I doubt there will be many others that make it more than a few years. It doesn't make much sense to go against the established manufacturers unless you have a differentiator in your product.

Probably need gov backing to jump in like BYD or NIO. Lucid would need full Saudi backing for a long time before being self sufficient.
