I guess that means that gas engine cars (petrol cars) can receive deisel engine motor oil; it's the same oil for either.

And, we have proof of that with the military personnel in Germany.. ok, that's a 10-4,
 
Look at the back of the blue bottle carefully for gasoline engine specs,on the front it appears to be a diesel only oil but the specs give it away as being for either.Being in France it maybe different but i don't think so.

Yes it is much cheaper and works well,i know a lot of GI's running it in U.S. cars and trucks without issue.


Do you mind if I ask what some of the vehicles make and models
are that you all have there in Germany.. i'm not scared of using
deisel motor oil in my car, but I just never heard of the interchangeability of deisel motor oil.. remember, this is a mercury grand marquis, a very gentle vehicle, I just don't want to hurt him..
 
I look for any specs that refer to gasoline engines i.e. the VW 504.00 in the oil you found.It cost money to get approvals so go with the most applicable standard for the market they intend to target.VW approve that oil in gasoline engines,some of their engines are very hard on oil so your 4.6 will have no issues at all.
I would probably not use a 100% HD diesel oil with no gasoline approvals,but many diesel labeled oils are in fact multi purpose and have gasoline approvals that show it as such especially in the lighter grades like 5w30.

Some cars i know of running this oil without issue.

Quite a few Ford and GM pickups
Ford Ka 1.3
Toyota 1.8

Lots of other cars that require either 10w30 or 5w30.
5w-20 is not used in Europe in any engine except for possibly hybrids and even for these 5w30 is recommended 5w-20 is a American CAFE thing.

I would use it in a minute with confidence,you will not damage the engine in fact this oil probably provides greater protection than any oil that can be bought state side with the exception of Amsoil,Redline and a very few speciality producers.Pennzoil Ultra maybe close as it is also a shell product.

Don't be surprised if the engine oil gets dirty fast,it will really clean the internals,just run the normal change interval. The dark color is meaningless and will appear cleaner longer after a few changes.
 
I'm going to ask you one more important question here;

1.why isn't everyone there on base, simply not using 5w30 gas oil, with the same 504.00 507.00 VW specs..

2.Why chose deisel with the same specs? Because it's semi-synthetic,?

Let me explain: Where I am, I find numerous 5w30's (gas M. Oil) with VW specs 504.00 507.00; I see this one, these specs all the time in France, but standard M.Oil.

In Germany you must have regular gas 5 30 M.Oil available,
why choose the deisel.

Yes gas engines can run diesel oil. You will find MANY people running the Shell Rotella T-6 (diesel oil) in VW and subaru turbo gas engines.
 
I am not an American i just have American friends,i live on the German economy when I’m there. Many Americans are Ex military that have stayed there and the guys on active service I know are mostly running cars they bought on the German economy.
I am retired from the German system and live in the U.S. also for now and go home frequently.

The reason we run this oil is simple 50-55 Euros vs 75-100 Euros (4 ltr jug) for dedicated gasoline engine oil with the same specs.
Most of us are car lovers who really care about what goes in our pride and joy as are most of the folks here at BITOG. If a few bucks can be saved in the bargain all the better.
Obviously you fall into the category also; you want what’s best for your car.
Folks that could care less would just grab 5w30 anything and be done with it.

I don’t know about France but i know German tax laws are lower for things labeled diesel that goes for fuel and motor oil. This is possibly is the same product only with a label that says diesel. If it has LKW (truck) on the label the tax is even less.

Someone posted this a few weeks ago.Click on the VW and diesel specs and then the API specs to get an idea of just how robust this oil is.

WOW, that is an awful lot to pay for standard motor oil 5w30,
75-100euros; in France it is not quite that much. Actually, generally the standard gas engine oil is actually only about 40 to 50euros, there is Castrol 100% syn that I have seen go for as high as 65, but that is about it; Deisel generally sells for less.. in any case, this means that the gas motor oil is ok too, same specs: if the price is good go for it;

we've got the following oils in this lovely country:

Elf
Total
Motul
Castrol
Shell
Agip
Esso,

and then there are numerous varieties that are from generic
label brands that aren't that bad also..

the gas engine oils normally run 40-60euros
and deisel will be about 25-50euros,

The only other brief problem is the labelling:

How do you see it: if it says synthetic technology,
then that should mean it's a synthetic blend.

If it says 100% synthetic, then that means it's 100%.

That is the rule in the u.s. but out here, there's not much discussion about this. Is it fair to assume then, that here
in europe as well, the rule is the following:

If it does NOT say 100% syn. then it is probably a blend,
because one can only write 100% on the bottle if it is legally, 100%.
