blackstone advised that aluminum, silicon, and insolubles are on the higher side.

they suggested checking air filter, i have a K&N filter which i clean twice a year (before winter, after winter). could the aluminum/silicon be high because it's too dirty?

i plan on decreasing my interval to 7500, change the oil filter midway and then do another UOA to see how it is.

another thing as well is that i now have a job which is close to home, my driving style will now be 20/80 highway/city with commute of roughly 8miles both ways. should i take this into account and further adjust my regiment?

any other comments/suggestions?

thanks.

i should clarify that my air filter is actually a AEM filter as it's connected to a CAI, not a K&N although i've been told they are one and the same.

I was thinking that perhaps you're over oiling your air filter, therefore letting some of that in through your intake, but i'm not an expert on them. I've had 2 K&N's but i've since switched back to using standard filters.

I'd get rid of the oil air filter.

With a low flashpoint, high SI, AL and insol and fuel ... AND with you changing the commute I would run a MAX of 4-5k miles and get a UOA.

The CAI is not your friend.

What type of oil filter to get .6 insol?

With 70/30 hwy/city going to 20/80 I WOULD NOT go for any longer OCIs in this car. Changing the oil is your best friend here.

I'd really recommend a read from Terry with the Fuel and insols. I know he is on top of high fuel in Hondas.

thanks for the advice bill.

i';ll look into getting the new AEM dry filter and also decrease OCI until my next UOA.

i've been using wix filters but recently came across a good deal for honda s2k filters so i'll be using those starting my next oil change.

who is terry?

with the change to 20% hwy 80% city driving, i would switch to 5k mile OCIs with a 0w20 such as Mobil 1 or 5w20 Motorcraft semisyn
will notice the cold short drive multiple shift rpm acceleration improvement of the thinner oil and still have outstanding wear protection

Wear is not bad, but would be signficantly reduced with a better air filter. I believe that Amsoil makes an EAA air filter that is a direct replacement for the AEM filter. Silicon should be in the 8-12 ppm range after 9500 miles. You should see an improvement in all the upper engine metals with just this filter swap.

The fuel dilution is probably cold weather related, but I'd run a strong dose of Redline SL-1, complete fuel system cleaner, or Techron Concentrate, with a full tank of gas. I believe you have some injector deposits that are contributing to imcomplete combustion. I'd also pull one of the plugs and see how those look.

Due to your new driving conditions, I'd recommend reducing the OCI by approx 1/3, ie 6000-7000 miles max. An SAE 0w-20 synthetic will give you better performance with this short trip service, as others have noted.

While I think you are on the right track with a change of filter you should also consider an auto-rx treatment. Your insolubles should never be this high at that milage. You have crud build up in your engine.

thanks for all the recommendations! it's greatly appreciated.

i still have a bottle of mobil1 5w-30 which i'll use up then switch to 0w-20 and see how that goes.

thanks again.
