Enough oil for Blackstone test?

I filled the clear plastic bottle 2/3 of the way full mid-stream. Does anyone know if this is enough oil for Blackstone to test?

The drain pan/tank I used for this oil change was brand new, so if necessary I can retrieve additional oil.

Email them. Why didn't you fill all the way ?

Here is your answer (from their FAQ):

How much oil do you need?

Our bottle holds 3.5 oz, or a little less than half a cup. You can get away with less, though we need at least 2.5 oz to do all of our tests.

so 2/3 X 3.5 = 2.33 or NOT enough !

If you're not having them run all of their tests you may be okay.

Emailing them is probably your best bet.

Typically if you're short, they won't be able to run some of the stuff like flashpoint, TBN, TAN. 2/3 of a bottle is typically fine for the report if you aren't paying for TBN or TAN.

I'm glad I asked.

As I mentioned before, this oil change was into a brand new oil pan storage container. I can retrieve additional oil from there.

What would you suggest I do, shake it up first or just skim the surface?

I forgot about taking the sample at first.

By the time I remembered, there wasn't enough left mid-stream to fill the container.

I usually don't fill it up all the way, usually about 3/4 of the way full and I've never had any problems.

I would send it in as is, I would not try to get oil from the drain pan even though the pan is new.

I think you have to fill all bottles for the test because more oil will give them more efficient result and have you asked from the lab how much they need?
