My apologies if this has been discussed before. Is it normal for cabin filters to be dirtier than engine air filters given the same mileage? I just replaced both on the wife's Venza (30k mi) and the cabin filter was noticeably dirtier than the engine air filter.

Things can sorta drop into to path easier where the cabin air intake is on a vehicle compared to the engine air intake location. That and the turbulence is different where engine air vs cabin air is drawn in.
Opposite here. The cabin filter on the FJ plugs up long before the engine air filter does.
You appear to have misread the OP he also was stating the cabin air filter was dirtier
Engine air intakes can be positioned where they're at least somewhat sheltered from rain and coarse pieces of airborne debris. HVAC intakes can't.
On our vehicles the cabin filter gets way dirtier. Probably replace the cabin filter 4-5x as often
True on every car I've owned except my wife's Forester. Don't know if it's the location of the intake, but the engine air filter and housing is always a mess of gravel, straw, grass, bugs, etc.
