Have a 01 Volvo S60, non-turbo, that I bought used at 40K mi. I have always run M1 10w30 in it with 5K OICs. Also have always had some engine vibration at low RPMs even after replacing motor mounts. Recently decided to do an A-RX on it. Started the rinse cycle yesterday with DuraBlend 10w30. Engine vibration at low RPM was immediately gone following the oil change - although was still bad during the cleaning phase. I've got right at 109K mi on it now. Guess I will stick with DuraBlend or MaxLife for a while and see how it does. Any similar exeriences?

modern engine designs are well-controlled in terms of manufacturing and precision, computer modeling, etc. that they are, ideally speaking, very low vibration when bought new.

As they age, problems typically associated with excessive vibrations are: (engine out of tune, unevenly distributed spark(s) if it's still runs on distributor cap style), uneven combustion pressure, weakened/bad engine mounts, with uneven combustion chamber pressure being the most common problem by far (stuck compression rings, execssive valve leaks, etc.)

AutoRx will help in restoring lost compression chamber pressure by cleaning the rings. All other stuff requires inspection....

Q.

M1 with 5k OCIs for almost 70k should have kept that engine clean. Did you find something dirty that you were trying to clean with the arx, or were you just trying it to get rid of the vibration?

As far as the Durablend goes, you're not the first guy to report a change in noise/vibration by switching oils. I'd say use what works for you

Nope - didn't find anything wrong. Just trying to lessen the vibration. Whatever works is fine with me!

Is the s60 a 5 cylinder? Many volvo 5 cylinder engines had vibration due to deteriorated engine mounts. There are many mounts for the engine and they can look fine until you take them off and they disintegrate in ur hands. Also the 5 cylinder is a naturally unbalanced engine and many of the ones I have owned had a "gruff" character to them.

Yep, it's an in-line 5-cylinder engine. I've always loved the way an I5 goes about its business, whether it was an Audi, Acura, Volkswagen or Volvo. What can I say, I like a car with personality...

Never mind - noticed same vibration again about 2 days later. Back to checking motor mounts.
