Engine Treatment Lubes?

Hi all,

I was wondering if those engine treatments such as Prolong

or Restore are any good. Do they really do more to protect an engine that regular oil changes with quality oil?
If so, which one would you recommend and why?

I did a search for this topic and didn't find anything so hopefully this isn't a duplicate.

I would bet you are better off without them. Some additives clean or like Restore or STP are a last ditch application to hide symptoms.

Interesting. How do they hide symptoms? Like knock and pings? (I really don't know much about cars so you kind of have to break it down for me.)

They thicken the oil a bit or Restore is supposed to fill the scratches? in the cyl walls. Pinging is from a tuning or mechanical problem 'egr clogged or messed up etc.'

There is a whole additive section down a little farther. Tends to focus on autorx and mmo though. Additive have their place IMO.

I have tried the Restore, without results.
I have seen others here, claiming that it can make a difference, if you have a badly worn engine.

A mechanic I know, swear to the Prolong, but I haven't tried it in the engine, except that I used their fuel treatment last time I filled gas for my wife.

It removes condense and water from the fuel, as well as doing some lubrication.

If you have decided to try one of these, I think you should try the Prolong.
