Engine tear-down, question regarding cleaner

Heres my issue.

Soon Ill be tearing the car down for a cam install (s/c 3800). Coolant has a tendency to make its way into the engine during the install at times. The general procedure is to fill with a cheap oil, run the car for a minute, shut it off and drain it, etc. However, some people still spin a bearing as a result.

What can I use to protect against spinning a bearing? I have a feeling that just running new oil through it wont help.

How about first draining the coolant before tearing into the engine? You'll still have some dregs dripping into the oil, but it shouldn't be that much for concern.

Well that is done, yes. The chance is still there, and Id like to avoid it at all costs. Would running AutoRX or similar help in avoiding this?

AutoRX is overkill. Drain the coollant from the radiator first. Before sliding the cam in, lube the entire camshaft up with lots and lots of white lithium grease. You can call it an assembly lube if you want to. After that, change out the oil in about 150 miles.

What about removing the block drains (knock sensors in this engine)? That should alleviate any concerns about getting antifreeze into the oil, correct?

Sounds good I guess. The rear knock sensor cant be removed without the engine being pulled. Thank GM for that one

After draining the coolant, refill with water, run until thermostat opens, and then drain this water. At this point there is so little of the glycol stuff left that you are basically dealing with pure water. Water evaporates from oil nicely.
