Oh yes, I worked on a couple of advanced development projects in the time I was there, and learned a lot. The Tech Center had 88 test cells, and many of the test cells were running automated endurance test cycles, so there would be engines running rated power (or more) on a round-the-clock basis. Techs assigned to monitor endurance tests would have responsibility for monitoring and maintenance of up to 4 test cells.
The test I always got a kick watching was thermal cycling of the 50-liter KV16. When the fueling was turned on, the torque indicator counted up in thousands of foot-pounds until the engine was running 6000 ft*lbs at 2100 rpm. That was a nice, round 2400 HP, and the engine did that for months on end with only normal maintenance.
