How to Use:

1. Turn On: Long-press the ON/OFF button, select your engine type (gasoline/diesel), and choose temperature units.
2. Test: Insert the probe into the oil dipstick port, ensuring it is immersed.
3. Analyze: Press "Start" to measure; the screen will display the percentage of light transmittance to indicate oil health.
4. Results: A high percentage means clean oil, while a low percentage (below 30%) indicates severe degradation, typically signaled by a red light warning.

I’m still a little confused as to what you would look at on the UOA to determine a quality metric.

The manual he posted says it tests transmittance. Isn't that how oil life monitors from the OEM's work?

Of course without something to calibrate it too your sort of stuck. Maybe test with this thing then do a oil analysis and plot out the values. Might tell you what level is acceptable?

Yes, it's safe to say a used oil analysis would be the better "tool". I imagine something like this popping up on certain foreign sites for cheap. Sort of gimmicky but would still like to see it in action for the heck of it.

It depends on the manufacturer, methinks. GM uses an algorithm, and Mercedes did (and I think still does?) use a dielectric sensor to measure capacitance.

I had to try it on the Corolla.
Results were 100%, not exactly sure where or how it comes down to it.
The oil has 4k miles on a clean engine. Running Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W30. I believe it is still strong but I will test it at 10k miles as I finish up my experiment, going to 10k miles (NEVER done before) Changing over to AMSOIL Signature Series and doing 10k miles. Determine which is cheaper, runs longest , protection best.

You should contact the SAE and ACEA with your discovery and results. Their tests for oil quality are far more complicated and expensive, it would save blenders and manufacturers a whole lot of money.

I have four test kits from Amsoil Lab. Tests will be done between the two cars.

Please try it on a virgin unused oil and post the results. I am very curious what the results would be.
