engine oil overfilled

I know from past experience that my Buick 3800 uses/loses motor oil until it's ⅓ quart below Full mark. Then no more oil use/loss.

So at OCI time I prefer to only add oil until it's ⅓ below Full mark.

At recent OCI someons overfilled it to ½ quart above Full mark.

Is there an easy, convenient way to remove ⅚ of a quart? If I have to pull drain plug briefly, I will, but hoping for an easier way.

Oil extraction pump, down the dip stick tube is easy, if you have one.

Personally, I would just ignore it, and let it naturally burn off. Half a quart over is fine, nothing will be damaged.

If you don't have a Mityvac type oil extractor, you can use the Shop-Vac trick shown in the video below. Just shut the vacuum off for a few seconds to let ~1 qt. drain out in a clean container. If you drain out too much, just pour back in the amount you need. I can confirm that the Shop-Vac trick works as shown.

Myself, I would just loosen the drain plug to the point of a rapid dribble and tighten when the desired oil comes out. I don't believe in buying something or sacrifice an oil filter to accomplish something so easy.
This is what I did when the dealer over-filled my Toyota by a full quart, and it was easier than I thought it would be. Did it cold so it came out pretty slow. When I had about enough out I screwed the plug half way in, wiped up around it, and fully tightened.
I agree. A half quart over isn’t a problem with this engine
But yes, 1/2 quart shouldn't be an issue - so this is likely the right answer.

"Someone" overfilled it, eh?

No harm is going to come for such a small volume of overfill. So the "easiest, convenient way" is simply to drive it and let it consume the lube, as Jetronic mentioned. After all, is that "someone" going to otherwise collect the oil and reuse it? Because if not, then what's the point?

If you do decide to remove it manually, make sure you get exactly 5/6 of a quart; use a graduated beaker. You wouldn't want it to be 1/32 of a quart underfilled. ;)

Most of our GM 350 and 454 irrigation motors with thousands of hours on them have just a sight gauge for oil level. I'm sure we're under/over filling them all the time with no harm, no foul.

I don't know your particular engine but the chances are that much of an overfill will not raise the oil level enough to cause aeration or too high oil pressure that can hurt something. If i were you I would simply leave it as it is.

The easiest and the least costly option would be removing the oil filter and let it drain overnight. That should take some oil out, perhaps around 100ml. You could repeat this a couple times. You would be buying any equipment or causing any mess
