i have a 01 dakota V6. is not driven much. i do have a OLD marvel mystery oiler on it. i found the oil level over full by 1.5 QT. what iam worried about is if the oiler is set wrong. what my BIG Q is . is there an easy way to see if my engine oil has been thinned out. of course the thing to do is change the oil. then be more careful on the oiler settings.

1.5 quarts?? Wouldn't that be visible as excessive consumption on the MMO? If it's not from that where else did it come from? If you got over a quart of gas in the oil it's going to smell a lot.

Is it a Marvel Inverse Oiler being set wrong? Probably if the level in the oiler went down by 1.5+ quarts quickly. My comments are based on you having one. If so you can check the flow by counting the drips per minute via the sight glass. You want about 15 or so drips per minute at an idle for a V6 engine. For that to flow 1.5 quarts and it end up in the sump there's something wrong big time. How many miles ago was the oiler filled? You want about a quart consumed/1,000 miles

With regard to the oil being thinned, if it drew into the sump 1.5 quarts of MMO the oil is thinner that it was when new.

1.5 quarts over is seriously overfilled. That will probably result in over-airation of the oil in the sump, reducing the desired OCI. Other problems could also result. All I can say is it's a good thing it's not a Diesel; things can go VERY badly if you overfill one of those.

The MMO is drawn by vacuum into the manifold and is burned the same as iff you mixed it in the gas tank. To get that much in the oil, it would have to be injecting so much into the intake that it would smoke, and not run right. It has to be something else.

Drain the oil, make sure the new oil is at the proper level then go from there. The marvel inverse oiler is hooked up to the oil the intake and oil the top end I hope?

Does the oil smell like gas? How quickly did the inverse oiler drop 1.5 quarts? In how many miles?
