The chromed plastic push button on the end of my emergency brake handle popped off a while ago. I looked on line and this seems to be a common problem at least with recent VWs. One guy spent well over $1000 to have the whole hand brake system replaced! Wow!

Others recommended gluing the knob on. Problem with this is that it can be messy and render the plastic rod unusable if the glue fails. Actually, there is a small protrusion on the plastic rod that comes up inside the e brake handle that snaps into the chrome button. When it breaks off, the problem manifests itself. I found a very cheap and effective way to fix this issue for under $1. I took a heavy rubber nipple about 1" long, the kind that you would use to seal off a vacuum source or other orifice under the hood. Making sure that the spring on the plastic rod is still in place, I pushed the nipple onto the rod and ....VOILA! It works as it always did. Doesn't even look bad.
