I would guess so. It's a brand from the Total corporation (before TotalFinaElf) as is Fina and Total.

I'm running their LDX Excellium 5W-40 in my cars for the summer months and it seems to be a very nice oil. A small hit on gas milage in city driving but no change in highway driving. Cars are nice and quite too.

I just returned from three weeks in France. On the rear window of every Renault it says (in French), Renault recommends ELF.
On the rear window of every Peugeot, it says (in French), Peugeot recommends TOTAL. Don't know what Citroen recommends.

I assume since the German elves out number the French elfs in your oil cellar, then the French are pretty quiet.

I have almost used a case of elf's 10W40 and i have to say that agip's sint 2000 is far better in terms of power output , fuel economy ,oil consumption and color retention. Sorry elf...
