Francis Quarles (1592–1644)
QUOTATION: Our God and Souldiers we alike adore,
Ev’n at the Brink of danger; not before:
After deliverance, both alike required;
Our God’s forgotten, and our Souldiers slighted.

I remember being ridiculed when I enlisted into the Army in 1975. I couldn't understand why people would give me "grief", I wasn't in charge. But still I carried on, and am still proud to have done my part in advancing this NOBLE EXPERIMENT, our country. My Uncle Ted was sleeping off a good Saturday night at Schofield Barracks on December 7, 1941. He said he got sober reeeealy fast. MY Father was drafted in 1951 and sent to West Berlin. My Cousin was in Vietnam, it was a [censored]-hole also. I came along and in the fullness of time, my son as well. God willing, I will exchange salutes with my one of my grand-children.

The armistice that ended WWI took effect on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, at 11:00 AM in Paris. So Nov 11 is Veteran's Day.

ok! I get it now! when i googled various permutations of the threads title trying to figure it out, all that came up were stories about the date 11/11/11..

and yes, as others have said,a huge thank you to all who have served.

by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Thanks for that.

It's probably a good time to think of all that have fallen, on whichever side, throughout all of the various conflicts. There are no winners in the end.
