Only by the weight of tons of worthless green paper that they had nothing to do with beyond doubling their yen by selling. It was a game of attrition. We allowed job after job go off shore. We allowed them unfair trade practices and they took full advantage of them. Eventually our $$ wasn't worth as much ..their goods got to expensive to manufacture ..they built plants here to relieve the burden by using US labor to make Japanese cars in the USA ..etc...etc...etc.

It will be the same for the rest of the world that we owe trillions of $$$. The only way that they can get their money is to assure that we are employed. They foolishly enslaved themselves to totally to the US $$. Before China came on the scene ..100% of the world export trade was almost contained within our borders and almost equaled by our exports. That is, all of them combined had a gross global export product that equaled our imports.

Without a viable US ..they have nothing to do since they don't trade much elsewhere.

So, since we're running short on credit (we still seem to have plenty of capital) we can give as much "free" foreign aid. Now places have to actually earn US $$. So oil filters is a good way to employ a foreign national (getting back on topic here

Little bit of education:

NAFTA = "North American Free Trade Agreement", covers Canada, Mexico, and U.S., not India.

India is allowed to export some types of goods (including oil filters) tariff free into the U.S. because it is on the list of developing nations covered by the "Generalized System of Preferences" (Title V, trade act of 1974, 19 U.S.C. 2461). This act is presumably meant to encourage economic development of poor nations so that less foreign aid handouts need to be given.

Comment:

It is amazing to me in the last ten years how low general inflation has been considering the run up in salaries, gas prices, and housing. If it weren't for Wal-Mart, China, and the Internet keeping costs down over that period, I shudder to think how bad inflation would have been and how bad off our economy would now be.

Try debt and the availability of cheap money that will plague someone in the future.

...but yes, developing nations have to earn their foreign aid nowadays. It's more "self regulating" then the corruption that usually follows semi-free money.

So, use filters made in India with confidence
