Also, despite the controversy over such products as Slick 50 and synthetic oil, I've had good luck with them. They helped two of my high-strung turbo cars go 100,000+ miles with no major engine problems. For a one time $20 fee (Slick 50) and a slightly higher cost during oil changes (Mobile 1 Synthetic), I feel they're a small investment with big potential returns.

This is just brutal.

Credibility is low here. Not because of his use of Slick-50 per se, but rather, for the fuzzy, illogical reasoning he seems to use. HE has had "good luck" with Slick-50 and Mobil-1??? How many control vehicles did he run that did not get these magical fluids, and that did not have "good luck"??? And the straw that breaks the camel's back for me is the incorrect spelling of "Mobil". I mean, I can understand a non-industry person perhaps getting it wrong, but no excuses for an insider. Mobil is an oil. Mobile is a city on the Gulf Coast in Alabama.

I'll just look elsewhere for advice on how to make my cars last forever...

Maybe it's boosted up? Mine was 7 psi boost & I got it up to 14 psi..... :)

a writer who thinks he knows how to take care of a car. probably goes to jiffy boob for all his services

I guess I expected better from Edmunds. The guy didn't even spell Mobil 1 correctly.

the guy's a frigyin (let's see if that gets censored) moron. where exactly do we find one of these 'new' camaro Z28 he talks about? amazing. his byline says he's editor-in-chief no less! give someone a title and a column and they have the right to go blasting verbal unsubstantiated poop all over the place. don't they know that automotive forums are the place for unsubstantiated poop?

This is off topic, but I find it a bit funny that there are no Mobil stations in Mobile. Exxon stations yes, but not even one Mobile Mobil. Avoids confusion no doubt.

I think my 2004 WRX wagon may qualify with a 2.0L(227HP) that feels like well a normal 2.0L below 3500RPM and wallop above 3500RPM. Guess where I shift it (4000RPM at peak torque).

"Also, whether you drive a Viper or Neon, sticking to the same brand of gasoline can reduce the chance of deposits building up within your fuel system"

What if you always fill up at a station that sells craapy gas!

I specifically disagree with this "stick with one gas" theory. I figure all products have their strengths and weaknesses. I deliberately shift brands from time to time so as to avoid the weak characteristics of any one gas (if any). Generally, I try to stick with the "Top Tier" fuels, but I do occasionally mix in come Hugoswill (aka Citgo) since that's what the convenience store closest to home (that's owned by some really nice folks) happens to serve up...

"A mobile is a type of kinetic sculpture constructed to take advantage of the principle of equilibrium." (wiki)

The only thing Edmunds was ever good for is that ONE stealership secrets story.
