I have an Echo 2100 straight shaft grass trimmer. Trimming along early, it quit! Like flipping the switch. Checked plug, good. Put in new plug, no go. New fuel from different batch, no go. I now have it stripped down to the engine. Shaft is off, all plastic is off. Magnets are there and pull good. Spark Plug in plug wire and pull, blue spark. Put elect. wire in plug wire and held 3/16" from metal, pull, blue spark. It will pop and [censored] out the exh. port a few times but will not run. I'm thinking the spark should be a strong orange? Ideas anyone? It's about 6 maybe 7 years old, been flawless up to now.

the spark should be blue like you have check the primer bulb for cracks or holes in it if not that check out the carb

take the fuel filter off and see if it runs, could be plugged. Check for carboned up muffler. last of all disassemble carb and look for problems.

As spasm3 said, replace the fuel filter.

Best way I've found is to get a metal coat hanger, make a hook, and pull it out and pop a new one on.

The bulb is good, soft and no leaks. I will.check the ftlter. I've dribbled a few drops of gas into plug hole and through carb but never any difference. Muffler is off now too. Can blow through it fine. Compression is no where close to my Echo hedge trimmer too.
This may end up at the repair center!LoL

Do you have fuel? Can you confirm that the rod isn't broken? Had that on a Ryobi leaf vac long ago...

6-7 years old u said...nuFF for new set of carburetor diaphragms...also respray all holes in that carburetor when it will be disassembled...

Also depending on how long you've had it, check the muffler and exhaust port to make sure they haven't become plugged. While you have that off, you can check the condition of the piston and cylinder wall.

Ditto. Look through the exhaust port, ck for carbon buildup. Look at the piston and ring(s) for signs of scuffing/scoring. Put a compression gauge on it.

Sounds like she melted down, exhaust side of the piston will show scuffing and compression will be low. They usually run awesome right up until they quit, it's almost always caused by a lean condition from a partially gummed up carb or poor fuel quality. 2-strokes run really well if they are just a little on the lean side but the piston overheats on the exhaust side from loss of cooling from liquid fuel.

I haven't had much time today but did take the muffler apart. Spark screen is a little dirty but not too bad. Its all in a bucket of Berryman carb dip for now. Ill check inside the cylinder tomorrow. May just be time for a new one.

I give up!!!!! This POS!
I've done everything I can do and still wont run. Pop, maybe a "fuut" once in a while, but nothing. I had the carb off and apart, spotless! Filters, perfect, and BTW, gas still tastes like [censored]!
Pulling slowly it about pulls the rope out of my hand! Took out the plug, brought to TDC, threaded in a piece of rubber tubing, blew, sucked, no air movement anywhere. Still have spark, unplugged kill switch, blessed it, talked nice to it, rubbed the tank, NOTHING!!!! I'm done! Now to go to HD for a new one!
Problem is i'm about broke! My new engine for my truck is coming out of the machine shop Monday or Tues, $4,200! (It's a screamer! 4 bolt, 30 over 400, aluminum heads, Scat rotating assembly, comp go faster cam, Teflon coated KB pistons. Gonna be fun)

So I have my choice:
Echo 21cc at $199.
Ryobi 25cc $119
Homelite 26cc $90

I may go to the corner gas station were all the lawn guys fill up every morning and see if anyone wants a pretty looking, non-running Echo for twenty bucks!!! Maybe they can do something i've missed.

If there are any Phoenix area guys on here that need spare parts or a good challange, the trimmer is up to anyone who would like it. "No strings attached"!
[censored]! "I still got it" Anyway, a freebie if any one is interested. My email is current in my profile. I'm close to 7st. And Northern Ave and travel to Tempe every 2 weeks also.

BTw, I also have a very old giant Tananka hedge trimmer that gave up eons ago, taking up space. It needs a free home to.
