Hi,

Just registered. This looks like a pretty helpful forum.

I bought an earl's 510 sandwich adapter this morning. $33 cdn at Mopac , a good deal I thought. It's machined, not cast, looks good.

I bought a Trasko filter about a year ago, which I will use for the time being. I think I'll switch to Motorguard due to the price difference of elements.

I'll try to attach some pics of the adapter. All of the oil has to flow through quite a small (maybe 5/16) spring loaded valve. This sort of concerns me.

What do you guys think of this plan...? Capping off the in/out ports and installing the sandwich adapter and full flow filter as normal. I'd like to check the pressure with the adapter in place, but no bypass filter to make sure I'm not loosing pressure.

I have an autometer oil pressure gage installed. I checked the pressure before mods. At idle(hot) approx 25 psi. At 2000rpm approx 60 psi. My car is a ford escort with about 150k miles. still runs excellent and I'd like to keep it that way.

The pics are huge, sorry...

I can't answer your question, but I can help on the images. Yep, they are HUGE and will probably kill everyone on dialup connections. I copied both and edited them down to about 1/25 the file size. If you like, copy these 2, then delete your images, and upload these, giving them the exact same names that you used the first time, that way they will just replace the ones in your post, no problems.

Hey, thanks Mark.

I still need to install some pic editing software. I just put a new HD in my computer.

I did some reading and found that Ralph Wood sometimes drills the permacool adapters another 7/32" port. This would probably help me out.

I plugged the in/out ports and installed the adapter with full flow filter (as Ralph also suggested in a post I read)

At idle (hot) I had approx 20psi, at 2000 rpm I had 45psi. I went for a little drive to make sure everything was up to temp. 45psi is the max pressure at any rpm.

Looks like I'll try drilling my adapter.

Thanks Ralph, there's a lot of good info in your posts.

Instead of drilling another hole ..I'd just enlarge the one already there.

This looks almost identical to the PC unit ...except for a couple of additional relief areas from the ports. On the PC unit (in my hand at this time) the ports have no restrictions that would require relief. Anyway, that appears to be a "finer" product.

Why don't you just remove the "plug" insert that holds the sprung ball in place? That might give you enough "relief" to restore your original oil pressure. You want to provide as little additional opening as you can get away with.

That's a good idea, I might try that next. I already drilled a 3/16" hole. It doesn't seem to be enough.

The idle is back to normal @25psi, but max pressure is still only 50psi. I'm not sure what I should be shooting for, is 5psi enough to run a bypass filter properly?

My original presure was about 62 psi, so I'm still losing 12 across the sandwich adapter.

Does it mean my bearings are in bad shape if my 4 cyl. requires this much flow?
